Thomas Wilford of Scalford 1844 Will

This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Wilford of Scalford in the County of Leicester Grazier

I give and devise the house in which I reside in Scalford aforesaid together with the Yard Buildings and Appurtenances to the same adjoining and belonging unto my Daughter Jane Newcome her heirs and assigns for ever

I give and bequeath unto my said Daughter all my household furniture, Plate, Linen and other household effects

I give and devise all that my Messuage or Tenement in Scalford aforesaid with the Appurtenances in the Occupation of Thomas Harby and also all those my two Closes in Scalford aforesaid called the Wash Dyke Close and the Homestead and now in the occupation of the said Thomas Harby unto my Grandson Thomas Newcome the younger and to his heirs and Assigns for ever

I give and bequeath all my Money, Securities for Money and all other my personal Estate and Effects not hereinbefore disposed of unto William Bunney of Little Dalby Grazier and Gregory Marriott of Scalford aforesaid Grazier Upon the following Trusts

To pay to themselves Ten Pounds each for their trouble and after providing a fund for the payment of the Legacies hereinafter mentioned my debts funeral and Testamentary Expences to pay and transfer the residue of my said Personal Estate to my said Daughter Jane Newcome absolutely

I give and bequeath to each of my Grand-children hereinafter mentioned a Legacy of Five hundred Pounds, vizt to Thomas, Elizabeth Wilford, John, Mary Anne, Jane, Frederick, Joel and Roger Wilford Newcome being eight children of my said Daughter

I direct the principal of such Legacies to be paid to my said Grand-children as they shall respectively attain their respective ages of Twenty one Years and that the same shall vest in each of them at that time but I direct that during their respective minorities the Interest of the said Legacies shall be paid to my Daughter for the purpose of assisting her in their maintenance and education, but if my said Trustees and Executors should think that my said Daughter does not maintain and educate my said Grand children properly and suitable to their condition in life I direct that they shall cease to pay to her such Interest and apply the same themselves or permit a part of the whole to accumulate according to their discretion

And I appoint the said William Bunney and Gregory Marriott Executors of my Will for the purposes aforesaid

If any of my Grandchildren shall have attained the age of Twenty one years at my Death, I direct his or her Legacy shall not be paid till the expiration of six Months after my Death

In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Wilford the Testator have hereunto set my hand this eleventh day of January 1844

Signed and published by the above named Thomas Wilford the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the Presence of us, who at his request in his Presence and in the Presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses

William Bunney of Little Dalby in the County of Leicester Grazier and Gregory Marriott of Scalford in the said County of Leicester Grazier the Executors in this Will named were duly sworn to the Truth and Faithful Performance thereof as usual and that the Goods Chattels and Credits of the Deceased do not amount in value to the Sum of Five thousand Pounds And that the Deceased died on the twenty seventh day of March last past
