James Whittle of Stathern 1726 Will and Inventory

In the Name of God Amen I James Whittle of Stathern in the County of Leicester Husbandman, being weak in Body but of sound & perfect mind & memory, Praise be therefore given to Almighty God, do make and ordain this my present last Will and Testament in Manner and Form following (that is to say)

First and principally I commend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God hoping through the Merits, Death, and Passion of My savour Jesus Christ to have full and free Pardon and Forgiveness of all my Sins and to inherit Everlasting Life And my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named

And as touching the disposition of all Such Temporal Estate as it hath please Almighty God to bestow upon me, I give and dispose thereof as followeth

First, I will, that my Debts and Funeral Charges be paid & discharged

I give to my Son Francis Whittle five Shillings

Item, I give to my Son Robert Whittle Twenty Pounds, ten Pounds of it to be paid him within one year after my Decease, and the other ten Pounds when he attains the Age of twenty one years, also I give to my Said Son Robert two large Pewter Dishes, and one Bed

Item, I give to my Son James Whittle the Sum of fifteen Pounds, five of it to be paid when he attains the Age of fourteen years, and the other ten to be paid when he attains the age of twenty one years

Item, I give to my Son John Whittle the Sum of fifteen Pounds, five of it to be paid when he is fourteen years old, and the other ten pounds when he attains the Age of Twenty one years

Item, I give to my Son Richard Whittle the Sum of fifteen Pounds, five of it to be paid when he attains the Age of fourteen years, and the other ten when he attains the Age of twenty one years

All the rest and residue of my Personal Estate Goods & Chattels whatsoever I do give & bequeath to Elizabeth my dear & loving Wife, full and Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament

And I chuse and desire Francis Sumner and William Parnam Junior both of Stathern to be Guardians of my Children to see that they have what I give them

And I do hereby revoke, disannul and make void all former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made

In Witness whereof I the Said James Whittle to this my last Will and Testament have set my Hand and Seal this thirteenth day of September in the year of our Lord God 1726
