Hugh Guy of Long Clawson 1694 Will and Inventory

In the name of God Amen the two and twentieth day of January in the Second yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord & Lady King William and Queene Mary by the grace of god over England & Anno Dni 1690 I Hugh Guy thelder of Claxton als Long Clawson in the County of Leicester yeoman being of good and perfect memory and in health (praysed by god) doe make my last will and Testament in manner following

And firstly I bequeath my Soule to God that gave it hopeing by the merits of Jesus Christ to have free pardon and remission of my sins And my body I comitt to the earth hopeing of a joyfull resurrection and to be desently buried according to the discretion of my Sonne and Executor hereafter named

And for my worldly goods I dispose thereof as followeth

And First whereas my Son Richard Guy stands bound to mee in a bond of foure score pounds to pay forty pounds within one yeare after my decease I give to my Son Hugh Guy of Scalford in the County of Leicester yeoman Thirty pounds thereof And the other Ten pounds I give to my Son Richard Guy And my will is that my Son Richard Guy shall have the bond delivered unto him upon the payment of the said Thirty pounds to my Son Hugh Guy by my Son Richard Guy And my will and mind is And I doe hereby give and bequeath unto my said Son Richard Guy after my decease all the Crop of Corne and grayne that shalbe growing upon the Land I hold I Clawson fields during my life

Item I allso give and bequeath unto my said Son Richard Guy the one halfe of all the rest of my goods Chattles Cattle and personall estate which I shall dye possed of att the tyme of my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto my said Son Hugh Guy the other halfe of all the rest of my good Chattles Cattle and personall estate which I shall dye possessed of att the tyme of my decease to be equally devided betweene them And my will is that the Charge of my buriall (which I desire may be donne desently) may be att the equal Charge of my Son Richard Guy and my Son Hugh Guy

And I doe make my Cosen Thomas Hickling of Clawson aforesaid yeoman my Executor And I doe desire him to see this my last will truely and honestly performed And if hee shalbe put to any charge or trouble by being made my Executor Then the same shalbe payed him out of my goods and personall estate that I shall dye possed of by my said Two Sons Richard Guy and Hugh Guy equally

In wittnes whereof I the Said Hugh Guy the Testator have hereunto sett my hand and Seale the day and yere above written

Sealed delivered & published and the words (after my decease) & the words “In my naturall life” were interlined before the sealing delivery & publishing hereof in the presents of us
