James Brough of Stathern 1635 Will and Inventory

March 18 Anno dni 1634
In the name of god amen I James Brough of Statherne in the County of Leicester Clearke being sicke in body but whole in minde and of a perfecte memory (god bee praysed) doe make and ordayne this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following
First I bequeath my Soule to Almighty god my maker and to Jesus Christ my redeemer hoping to be saved by his merittes death & passion and by none other meanes and my body to the earth from whence it came to bee buried in the Church of Statherne aforesayd
Item I give to the sayd Church forty shillings to be imployed at the discretion of my Executor
Item I give & bequeath to the poore of the sayd Parish twenty six shillings eight pence to bee distributed at his discretion
Item I give to every of my godchildren five shillings a peece
Item I give and bequeath to each of the Children of my Sister Freman five pounds a peece if they shall take good courses and bee advised by my executor to bee payed to them within one whole yeare after my decease
Item I give to my kinsman Hugh Cartwright & his wife of …ington five poundes and to his Children Five poundes more amongst them to bee payd within one yeare after my decease
Item I give to the Church of Weston neere …ford forty shillings and to the poore thereof twenty shillings to bee payed as aforesayd
Item I give to the Parish Church of Branston twenty shillings and to the poore thereof twentye shillings to bee payd as aforesayd
Item I give to the Church of Mappleberke [?] where I was borne xxs and to the poore thereof [nothing else written on the line]
Item I give to Mr Francis Harker and his wife xxs and to their Sonn xs
Item all the rest of my goodes and Chattels whatsoever moveable and unmoveable unbequeathed my legacies performed and funerall expences discharged I give and bequeath to my worthy and trusty good friend Roger Derham of Branston Dr of divinitye whom I make and ordayne my sole Executor of this my last Will and testament
