Nursery Rhymes & Story Times.

The Scarecrow Festival usually takes place in the second weekend of September and has a dedicated Facebook page; for news and updates (including competition winners), click here.

In 2025 it took place on the 13th & 14th September from 10am to 4pm with the theme: Nursery Rhymes & Story Times.

The annual presentation evening was held at The Plough Inn on Sunday November 16th where it was announced that an incredible £9,500 was raised by the main scarecrow event with additional fundraising from refreshments for the Village Hall and the Church and for individual charities fundraising over the weekend.

The winning Scarecrow makers were presented with Karen’s wonderful personalised knitted members of the scarecrow family whilst this year’s nominated charity, the Blood Bikes, received a cheque for £4,500. The balance of the funds raised was shared amongst charities chosen in memory of villagers who have died this year and local groups.

The scarecrow festival is a great opportunity for everyone to get together and for a bit of fun but it is also about raising much needed funds for local charities; this year’s main charity is The Blood Bikers. Further donations will be made to charities chosen in memory of villagers who have died this year and local groups.

2025: the 25th Anniversary of the Hickling Scarecrow Festival

A display of photographs and information celebrating 25 years of the Hickling Scarecrow Festival was held in Church during this year’s scarecrow weekend and will be followed by the publication of a book in late-October 2025.
