Thomas Wright of Long Clawson 1662 Will and Inventory

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Wright of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson in the Countie of Leicester yeoman being in good health and in good and perfect memorie (praised bee God for the Same) And yet considering how uncertaine the continuance of this life is, and how unfitt it is to be troubled with worldly cares in the tyme of sicknesse Doe make and ordaine this my Last Will and Testamt in manner and forme following

First I comend my Soule unto Almightie God my Creator trusting to be saved by the Death and passion of Jesus Christ my Redeemer And my body I comitt to the earth in hope of a glorious resurreccon

Item toucheing my temporall estate which God in mercy hath vouchsaved me I dispose thereof as followeth

It I give unto my second sonne Thomas Wright an apprentice at London the sume of eightie pounds of lawfull money of England and alsoe I bequeathe and give unto him five pounds worth of household goods which said porcon or legacies I appointe my Executor herin & hereafter named to pay and render unto my said sonne Thomas Wright within three months next after his serveing and compleateing of his said apprenticeshipp

Itm I give and bequeathe unto my daughter Mary Wright the some of eightie pounds of lawfull money of England And moreover I give unto my said daughter Mary twentie pounds in household goods to bee paied and rendred unto her other at her marriage or when she shall accomplish thage of twentie foure yeares whether shall first happen

It I give and bequeath unto my eldest sonne John Wright one paire of mault quernes, one great oake leather and all the hovell tymber as its now placed about the yard And alsoe I bequeath unto my daughter in lawe Rosamond Wright twelve pence

It I give and bequeathe unto my sonne in lawe Thomas Marriott and Jane his wife to other of them twelve pence

It I give and bequeathe in like manner unto my sonnes in lawe Thomas Mitchell and Isabell his wife Stephen White and Elizabeth his wife to every one of them twelve pence

It I alsoe give and bequeathe unto my foure grandchildren That is to say Thomas Marriott Thomas Mitchell Rosamond Wright and Dorcas White to every one of them ten shillings all which said last legacies I appoint to be paied within six moneths next after my decease

It I give unto my youngest sonne Robert Wright the Cottage or Tenemt with thappurtences Scituate and being in Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid which I lately purchased of William Dalby which said Cottage or Tenemt with thappurtences I give unto my said youngest sonne Robert Wright and to his heires and assigns for ever And alsoe the halfe oxgange of land arrable meadow and pasture with thappurtences lieing and being in the West end feildes and libties of Claxton aforesaid which I heretofore purchased of Thomas Fawkes now deceased which said halfe oxgange of land with thappurtences I give unto my said younger sonne Robert Wright and to the heires of his body lawfully begotten And for want of such issue Then I give and Dispose of the same halfe oxgange of land with thappurtences unto my said second sonne Thomas Wright and his heires and assignes for ever

Now if it happen that other my said sonne Thomas Wright or daughter Mary Wright shall depart this life before they or other of them shall receive their several porcons and legacies before herein by me given them Then my will and minde is that the porcon or porcons of such deceased shall come and bee equally devided amongst all the surviveing and naturall children of the body of me the said Thomas Wright (except my eldest sonne John Wright herein before named) to bee equally distributed betweene them

I give unto the poore of Claxton aforesaid twentie shillings to bee paied them within three moneths next after my decease

The rest and residue of all and singular my goods chattels and debts after that the debts which I shall owe at my Death shalbe paied my funerall and this my Will discharged and performed I wholly give and bequeathe unto my loveing and Deare Wife Jane Wright whome I make and ordane the Sole Executrix of this my last will and Testamt

In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Wright first herein above named have hereunto sett my hand and seale the five and twentieth day of Aprill in the yeare of our Lord according to the account now used in England one thousand six hundred and sixtie
