Matthew Wells of Ab Kettleby 1814 Will

This is the Last Will and Testament of me Matthias Wells of Abb Kettleby in the County of Leicester Grazier as follows

I Give and bequeath unto my Sister Elizabeth Atten and her Assigns for and during the term of her natural life One Annuity or yearly sum of five pounds to be paid to her half yearly that is to say On the fifth day of April and the tenth day of October in every year The first payment thereof to begin and be made on such of the said days that shall first and next happen after my decease And I do hereby subject and charge all my Personal Estate with the just and true payment thereof

I Give and bequeath unto my Nephew Matthias Atten Son of my said Sister Elizabeth Atten the sum of Twenty pounds

Unto my Neices Elizabeth Atten, Margaret Dunnicliffe, Damasin Wall and Frances Cartwright Daughters of my said Sister Elizabeth Atten the sum of Ten pounds apeice

Unto my Nephew George Wells Son of my late Brother John Wells the sum of Twenty pounds

Unto my Nephews and Neices Edward Wells, Matthias Wells, Elizabeth Wells and Dorothy Wells Sons and Daughters of my said late Brother John Wells the sum of Ten pounds apeice

Unto my Neices Mary Cramp and Elizabeth Chapman Daughters of my Brother Thomas Wells the Sum of Ten pounds apeice

Unto my Neice Jane Wells the Daughter of my Brother Samuel Wells the sum of Ten pounds

Unto my Neice Mary Atten the Daughter of my Sister Elizabeth Atten the sum of One hundred and Sixty pounds and unto William Dunnicliffe who now lives with me Son of my Neice Margaret Dunnicliffe the sum of five pounds

All which said several legacies I will shall be paid to each and every of them within twelve months next after my decease by my Executor

And as to all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Household Goods Stock Cattle Chattels Rights credits Ready money securities for money and all other my Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind or quality soever the same may be (subject to the payment of my just debts the legacies above bequeathed funeral and Testamentary expences) I Give and bequeath the same unto my Nephew Samuel Wells (son of my late Brother John Wells) his Executors administrators and assigns

And Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my said Nephew Samuel Wells Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby Revoking all former Wills by me made

In Witness whereof I the said Matthias Wells the Testator have hereunto set my hand and seal the Second day of November One thousand eight hundred and Thirteen

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Mattias Wells the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have at his Request in his presence and in the presence of each other set our hands as witnesses to the due Execution thereof

Let a probat be made to Samuel Wells of Ab Kettleby Farmer the sole Executor within named

He being duly sworn as well to the faithful Execution of the Will as that the Testator’s Goods Chattels & Credits as they were at his death (which happened 26 January last) without deducting any debts owing by the deceased therefrom did not amount in value to the sum of One thousand pounds
