Lawrence Webster of Long Clawson 1744 Will

In the Name of God Amen I Lawrence Webster of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Whittawer being of sound Mind Memory and Understanding praised be Almighty God for the same and considering the Uncertainty of this life and the certainty of Death Do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say

In the first place I resign my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God my Creator and my Body I comitt to the Earth to be decently Buryed at the discretion of my Executrix hereinafter Named and as for my Temporal Estate which it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I Give Devise and bequeath of the same as followes

In the first place I Give and Devise All my Messuages Cottages Dove Houses Lands Tenements and hereditaments whatsoever with their and every of their Appurtenances situate & standing lying and being with the Town and Town fields of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid unto my Dear and Loving wife Ann for and during the Term of her Natural life

And from and after her Decease Then I Give and Devise the same unto my Brother Phillip Hawley and Jonathan Gregory of Scottle Thorpe in the County of Lincoln And their Heirs Upon special Trust and confidence that they the said Phillip Hawley and Jonathan Gregory or the survivor of them or the Heirs of such Survivor do and shall as soon as conveniently may be after the Decease of my beloved Wife Ann Sell the same premises And the Money Arising by such sale I will and direct that the same be paid as is hereinafter mentioned

Namely I Give unto Lawrence Wright of Kettering the sum of five pounds part thereof unto Lawrence Smith of Nottingham & Lawrence Mebbott of [place missing] and Margarett Gretton of Hornsworth the sum of five pounds a piece unto my Brother Phillip Hawley and Jonathan Gregory Two pounds and Ten shillings apiece unto my sister Mary Smith the sum of Ten pounds and unto her Daughter Elizabeth the sum of Twenty pounds

Also I Give and bequeath unto Thomas Smith and John Smith Sons of my Sister Mary Smith the sums of five pounds apiece and Mary Bealey Daughter of my said Sister Mary Smith the sum of five pounds

Also I Give and bequeath unto Mary Elizabeth and Ann Webster Daughters of my Brother John Webster Twenty shillings apiece and unto John the Son of my Brother John Webster the Sum of five pounds

Also I Give and bequeath unto Mary Elizabeth Margarett and Catherine Daughters of my Brother Samuel Webster the Sum of five pounds apiece

Also I Give and bequeath unto Thomas Samuel and Mary Sons and Daughter of my Brother Thomas Webster the sums of five pounds apiece

Also I Give and bequeath unto Ann Worthington of Nottingham and to her Sister Elizabeth Sandey Two pounds and ten shillings apiece

Also I Give and bequeath unto Hannah and Mary Daughters of my Brother Phillip Hawley Two pounds and ten shillings apiece

And my Will and mind further is that in case any of my Legatees shall happen to dye before his her or their Legacys become due and payable then I Give the Legacy of him her or them so dying to be Equally divided amongst the rest of my Legatees that shall be then living

And my Will and Mind also is that in case My Messuages Cottages Dove Houses Lands Tenements and hereditaments hereinbefore by me Devised to be sold be sold for more Moneys than what I have hereinbefore disposed then I Give such Surplus Money to such of my Nephews and Nieces as shall be then living

Also my Will and Mind is that my said Trustees shall not be Accountable the one for the other or the one for the Acts or Deeds of the other And that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said Trustees from time to time to deduct of the said Trust Estate such necessary charges and expences as they shall pay or be put unto in the Management and Execution of the Trust aforesaid

Also all the rest of my Goods Chattles Cattle and personal Estate whatsoever my Debts Legacys and funeral Expenses being first paid and discharged I Give and bequeath unto my Dear and Loving Wife Ann Whom I Make full and Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby Revoaking all former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made Declaring this to be my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the said Lawrence Webster the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament containing two Sheets of Paper Set my Hand and Seal to each Sheet this five and Twentieth Day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and forty Three
