Henry Stokes of Long Clawson 1779 Will

This is the last Will and Testament of me Henry Stokes of Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Farmer

First I do hereby order and direct that all my Just Debts and Funeral Expenses shall be fully paid and satisfied so soon as conveniently may be after my decease and subject thereto I do Give and dispose of my personal estate and effects in manner following (that is to say)

I Give and Bequeath unto my dear wife Ann Stokes so much money as was before my intermarriage with her lent and advanced by her to Joseph Cooke and Robert Mackley upon their Note the same being about Thirteen pounds And I Give and Bequeath unto my said Wife Ann Stokes Sixteen Guineas which she had in Cash at the time of my Marriage with her And I also Give and Bequeath unto my said Wife the sum of Twenty pounds

I Give and Bequeath unto my youngest Daughter Sarah Stokes the Sum of Twenty pounds

And as to for and concerning the rest residue and remainder of my ready money and Securities for Money Goods Chattels personal estate and effects of what nature or kind soever not hereinbefore otherwise Given or disposed or (after payment thereout of my Just Debts and funeral expences) I Give an  Bequeath the same unto my Six Children Mary Shilcock Elizabeth Bullock John Stokes Ann Williams Hannah Stokes and Sarah Stokes equally to be divided amongst them

And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Daughter Ann Williams Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other Wills by me at any time heretofore made

In Witness whereof I the said Henry Stokes have hereunto set my hand and seal the third day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and seventy Eight

On the 29th day of October 1779 Ann Williams the sole Executrix within named was sworn to the due Execution hereof and at the same time made oath that all the Testator’s personal Estate at the time of his death was not worth one hundred pounds
