Alexander Spell of Holwell 1702 Will and Inventory

In the name of God Amen I Alexander Spell of Holwell in the County of Leicester Grasier Beinge of perfect Mind and memory praised be God for it But Weake and Indisposed in body Doe make this my Last will and Testament in manner following

Impris I Comend my Soule to God Almighty that give it me hopeing through the Merritts of Jesus Christ to Inheritt Life everlasting and My body I Comend to the Earth to be decently buried by my Extors hereinafter named

Impris my will and mind is that my debts Legacies and Funerall expences be first paid and discharged by my Extors hereinafter named

Item I give to my foure daughters, to witt, Mary Ward, Frances Hazlewood, Susanna Parr and Margarett [blank] which I had by my first wife Forty shillings apiece to be paid to them Severally by my Extors

Item I give to daughter Elizabeth Spell the Sume of fifty pounds

Item I give all my bease sheep and Cattell Except one Yearling Calfe to my two Sons James Spell and John Spell to be equally divided between them in case they two can agree so to do If not I give all the said bease Sheep and Cattell unto my Son James he payeing Forty pounds unto my Son John, that is to say, twenty pounds thereof within one Yeare after my decease and the other twenty pounds within two yeares next after my decease

Item I give the Yearling Calfe before excepted unto my Loveing wife Elizabeth Spell

Item I give to my said wife Elizabeth Spell the Interest and Improvement of one hundred pounds from the time of my death for the terme of her naturall Life in case she keepe herselfe my widow and shall not marry againe, and from and after her decease I give the said one hundred pounds unto my Said three Children James, John and Elizabeth Spell to be equally divided amongst them share and share alike and I will my said wife to pay twenty shillings Yearely out of the said Interest and Improvement towards house keeping

But in case my said wife shall marry againe, I revoke the Legacy of the Interest and Improvement of one hundred pounds before given to her for her life, and I give her twenty pounds of the said one hundred pounds and one bed and beding to it and the other fourscore pounds I give unto my aforesaid three Children James John and Elizabeth Spell to be equally divided amongst them Imeadiately after my wifes Second Marriage

All the rest of my goods Chattles Cattles and personall estate whatsoever unbequeathed of I give to my Loveing wife Elizabeth and my son James whome I make full and Joynt Extors of this my Last will Revokeing all former and other wills by me made

In Witnesse whereof I the said Alexander Spell have hereunto set my hand and seale the seaventh day of March in the Fourteenth yeare of the Reigne of our Sovereigne Lord William the third by the grace of God King of England &c Annoq Dni 1701
