In the name of god Amen the xxiiiith day of August in the seaven and thirtieth yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lady Elizabeth by the grace of god of Englande France and Irelande Queene defendrysse of the fayth etc et ao dni 1595 I Willm Smarte of Claxton in the county of Leic Laborer being sick in body but of whole & perfect memory thanks be given to god do make & ordaine this my last will & testament I maner & fourme following
First I bequeath my soule to god my maker & to Jesus Christ my savior & redeemer in whom I have a lively fayth & my body to be buryed in the church yarde of Claxton aforesayd
Itm I give to the pore mans box iiiid
Itm I give to Alice Smarte my Syster one ewe hogge & viis whiche I do owe unto her
Itm I give to Elizabeth my daughter one browne heifer, two cofers, three coverlyds one Matresse two paire of the best sheets, one bolster, two pillowes, two pillowe beers, six platters, two porringers, one … candlesticke, one borde, one forme, one chaire in the house, one brasse pott being the best one greate panne, one bedstead & foure pounds of lawfull englishe money which sayd some of foure pounds to be put forth to thuse & profit of the sayd Elizabeth my daughter within one yeare after my decease
Itm my debts legacies & funerall discharged the rest of my goods whatsoever unbequeathed I give to Mary Smarte my wyfe whom I do make my full & sole executrix of this my last wyll & testament & I do request Robt Wright & Richard Guy to be the overseers hereof
