William Skinner of Nether Broughton 1803 Will

In the name of God Amen This is the last Will and Testament of me William Skinner of Nether Broughton in the County of Leicester Grazier

First I give and bequeath to my loving Wife Grace Skinner all my Household furniture of what nature or kind soever my brewing vessels plate and linen for her own proper use and benefit to be delivered to her immediately after my decease

Also I give devise and bequeath unto my said loving Wife Grace Skinner and to her assigns for and during the term of her natural life One annuity or yearly sum of ten pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain free and clear of all Taxes and other outgoings and deductions whatsoever And I direct the same to be issuing and payable out of all and every my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Real Estate whatsoever situate standing lying and being in Nether Broughton aforesaid and to be paid in even half yearly payments on the sixth day of April and the eleventh day of October in every year, the first payment thereof to begin and be made on such of the said days of payment as shall first and next happen after my decease

And I give unto my said Wife Grace Skinner such and the same power of enforcing and obtaining payment of the said annuity or yearly sum of ten pounds by distress and sale from time to time as any portion thereof shall be in Arrear and unpaid by the space of thirty days next after either or any of the days whereas the same is hereinbefore appointed to be paid as aforesaid as Landlords have for the enforcing and obtaining payment of Rent in Arrear And my Will is and I do hereby declare that the said Annuity or yearly sum of ten pounds hereinbefore bequeathed to my said Wife as aforesaid is and that the same shall be accepted by her in lieu, bar, and full satisfaction as well of and for all Dower and Thirds at Common Law or by Custom which she can or may have claim or be entitled to out of in or to all and every or any of the Messuages Closes Lands and Hereditaments whereof I shall die seized or possessed (except such annuity or annuities and sum or sums of Money which she now is or may be entituled to or have power to charge all of any of my real Estate with by virtue of our Marriage Settlement or Agreement)

Also I give and bequeath to my Niece Mary Innocent the sum of fifty pounds

Also I give and bequeath to the children of my late Niece Ann Innocent the sum of fifty pounds to be equally divided amongst them share and share alike

Also I give and bequeath unto my Niece Hannah Roper the sum of fifty pounds

Also I give and bequeath to my Niece Elizabeth Brett the Wife of Robert Brett of Tithby in the County of Nottingham the sum of fifty pounds and I do hereby direct that her Receipt alone notwithstanding her present or any future Coverture and whether she shall be sole or Covert shall be a good and sufficient discharge to the person or persons who shall pay the said legacy of fifty pounds which said legacy of fifty pounds I direct shall not be at the disposal or subject to or liable to the power control debts or engagements of her present or any future Husband but shall at all times be for her own use and at her sole and separate disposal

Also I give and bequeath to my Nephew John Skinner of Tithby aforesaid the sum of one hundred pounds in special trust and confidence for the uses and purposes hereinafter mentioned (That is to say)

I will and direct that my said nephew shall and do place the same out at Interest on good security or securities for the most interest he can get for the same and pay the Interest arising therefrom yearly and every year as the same shall become due to my Niece Elizabeth Watson otherwise Cooper the daughter of my late Sister Elizabeth Bell until such time as her youngest child shall attain to its age of twenty one years in case my said Niece shall live so long And I will and direct that at that time or at the decease of my said Niece which shall or may first happen my said Nephew and Trustee shall pay the said sum of one hundred pounds and all interests then due on it unto and amongst all and every of the children of my said Niece Elizabeth Watson otherwise Cooper aforesaid who shall be living at the time the same is hereinbefore made payable to them

And I do hereby subject charge and make chargeable all my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Real Estate whatsoever situate standing and being in the Liberty of Nether Broughton aforesaid with the just and true payment of all the Annuities and all the said several Legacies hereinbefore by me given and bequeathed and likewise with the true payment of all my just debts (except such payments as my said Wife has power to charge upon all my Messuages Tenements or Lands and Real Estate situate standing and being in Syerston in the County of Nottingham according to our Marriage Settlement)

And subject to all the said payments I give devise and bequeath all my Messuages Tenements Lands Hereditaments and real Estate situate standing and being at Nether Broughton aforesaid and all the residue and remainder of the personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said Nephew John Skinner his Heirs and Assigns for ever

Also I give and devise all my said Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate situate standing and being in Syerston aforesaid and all my Estate and Interest therein to my said Nephew John Skinner his Heirs and assigns for ever

And Lastly I hereby make and ordain my said Nephew John Skinner whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made

In Witness whereof I the said William Skinner the Testator have to the first sheet of this my Will set my hand and to this my last sheet my hand and seal this twenty eighth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two

Let a Probat be made to John Skinner the sole Executor within named He having duly sworn to the faithful execution of the Will as that the Testator’s Goods Chattels and Creditts do not amount in value to the sum of One hundred Pounds
