Thomas Simpson of Grimston 1773 Will

In the Name of God Amen the 6th Day of October in the year of our Lord 1772 I Thomas Simpson of Grimston in the County of Leicester Woolcomber being weak in Body but of perfect mind and Memory thanks be given to God do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following

First I give my Soul into the Hands of almighty God that gave it hoping through the Death and Passion of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer to receive free pardon of all my Sins and as for my Body to be buried in a Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter nominated

Imprimis I Give to Thomas Tugwood one Shilling

Item I Give to William Tugwood Ten Pounds

Item I Give to William and Mary Storer Son and Daughter of Mary Tugwood of Grimston the Sum of Ten Pounds Betwixt them

Item I Give to my Niece Dorothy Collins Five Pounds

Item I Give to my Niece Ann Cross Five Pounds

Item I Give to my Niece Ann Rollins Five Pounds

Item I Give to my nephew Joseph Simpson Five pounds

Item I Give to my nephew Robert Simpson Five pounds

Item I Give to my nephew William Simpson Two pounds

Item I Give to Mary the Daughter of Edwd Simpson Two Pounds

Item all the rest of my House and Land I Give and devise to my Sister Deborah Tugwood during her life and after her  Decease I Give Bequeath and devise my House and Land to my Nephew James Simpson upon Condition that he Shall pay all my Debts legacies and Burial Charges and my mind and Will is to give to my nephew James Simpson after my Sisters Decease my House and Land to him and his Heirs for ever and my mind and Will further is the aforesaid Legacies Shall be paid in Twelve Months after my Sister Deborah Decease

Item I Give to my Nephew William Tugwood all my wearing apparrel woollen and Linnen

Item all the rest of my Househould goods I Give to my Sister Deborah to Despose of as She pleases and I do hereby revoke and Disannul all former Wills and Testaments that has been by me made

The within named Deborah Tugwood Sister and one of the next of Kin of the within named Thomas Simson the Testator and also residuary legatee of his household Goods was then sworn Administratrix with the Will annexed of the said deceased (the like power being reserved to the other next of Kin to the said deced)

Bond, bound Deborah Tugwood of widow of Grimston and Richard Cross labourer of Thrussington £100 12 June 1773

Whereas Thomas Simpson late of Grimston in the County of Leicester Woolcomber deceased in and by his last Will and Testament duly executed and attested bearing date the sixth day of October one thousand seven hundred & seventy two Gave to Thomas Tugwood – William Tugwood – William and Mary Storer – His niece Dorothy Collins – His niece Ann Cross – His Niece Ann Rollins – His nephew Joseph Simpson – his nephew Robert Simpson – His nephew William Simpson and to Mary Simpson certain sums of money or Legacies therein particularly mentioned And also gave and devised all his house and land to his Sister Deborah Tugwood during her life and after her decease to his Nephew James Simpson upon Condition that he should pay all his Debts Legacies and burial Charges and his mind and will was to give to his Nephew James Simpson after his Sisters decease his house and land to him and his heirs forever and that the Legacies by his said Will given should be paid in twelve months after his Sister Deborah’s Decease And all the rest of his household Goods he gave to his said Sister Deborah to dispose of as she pleased but did not appoint any Executor of his said Will And Whereas the said Deborah Tugwood is one of the next of Kin of the said deceased

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such that if the abovebounden Deborah Tugwood do well and faithfully execute & perform the said last Will and Testament of the said deceased and do well and truly administer all &  singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased according to the tenor and Effect of the said Will and pay the said deceased’s Debts if any be and the Legacys given and bequeathed in and by the said Will so far as such Goods and Chattells and Credits shall thereto extend and the Law oblige her And lastly do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the registry of the Commissary Court of Rothley a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods Chattells and Credits of the said deceased and render and pass a just and true Account of her acting therein when she shall be thereunto lawfully required Then this Obligation to be void otherwise to be and remain in full force and Virtue
