Jasper Simpson of Saxelby 1667 Will and Inventory

Countie Leicester July 28th 1667

In the name of God Amen I Jesper Simson of Saxalby in the County aforesd Sheapheard being weake in body but of good & perfect memory do make & ordaine this my last will & testament in manner & forme following

First I bequeath my soule to god who gave it me trusting onely to be saved by Christ my redeemer

Itm whereas I have onely two small children to wit Thomas & Elizabeth betwixt whome I desire the maine of my estate shall be devided and to that end I have before the sealing & publishing of this my last will & testament agreed to & with my trusty & welbeloved brother Thomas Gamble that he the sd Thomas Gamble shall be the executor of this my last will & testament and therefore have in the presence of severall credible persons given him a true account of my whole estate which estate is in no wise overvalued, The aforesd Thomas hath willingly & freely promised the bringing up my two children upon conditions hereunder mentioned

And therefore I give unto my two children Thomas & Elizabeth threscore & foure pounds apeece to be paid them when they shall attaine to the age of fiveteen yeares severally which portions are to be raised forth of the cattells & chattells without doares and also out debts which are owing to me uppon bills & bonds & otherwise

Itm as for my household goods my will is that they shall be devided equally betwixt my said children my executor haveing the custody of them till they shall attaine the age of fiveteene yeares none of them to be sold but by the consent & approbation of my trusty & welbeloved freinds Mr Robert Kirkby of Saxalby & John Hurst of Holwell whom hereafter I shall make Supervisors of this my last will & testament & what shall be raised forth of my sd goods to be added to the aforesd portions equally my sonne Thomas onely to have above his share my bible

Itm in case either of my children shall die before there portions be due to be paid or before they be able to dispose of them my will is that the survivour shall enioy the others portion and in case they shall both die before there portions be due to be paid or before they be able to dispose of them my will then is that my executor shall pay to my brother William Simpson ten pounds to Thomas Simpson ten pounds to my brother John Gamble four pounds to Mary Gamble my sister four pounds

It I give to my servaunt Francis Hart the summe of 5s

Itm whereas I lately tooke a lease of a tenement of Edmund Gregory wherein I now dwell which lease is to continue for the life of the sd Edmund my will is that my brother Thomas Gamble whom I make the executor of this my last will & testament shall hold it toward the bringing up of my children untill the youngest shall accomplish the age of fiveteene if the above named Edmund Gregory shall so long live

Itm all other the goods cattells & chattells moveable and unmoveable I give to my brother Thomas Gamble my executor my debts first pd & funerall expences discharged

Lastly whereas I have advised with my trusty & loveing freinds Mr Robert Kirkby of Saxalby & John Hurst of Holwell about the makeing this my last will & testament I desire and appoint them to be Supervisors of this my will and humbly desire them to see that this my will be performed & more espetially that my executor Thomas Gamble do give sufficient security for the performance of my legacies & for there paines herein I give each of them a paire gloves
