John Shillcock of Long Clawson 1837 Will

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Shilcock of Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Farmer

First I direct my just debts Funeral and testamentary expences be fully paid

I Give and Devise All those three Messuages or Tenements with the Yards Gardens Outbuildings and Appurtenances thereto belonging in the several occupations of myself Mary Cross and Edward Wilson situate in Long Clawson aforesaid And also all those two Closes called the Homestead containing four Acres and the Beanham containing six acres situate in the Lordship of Long Clawson aforesaid in the tenure of my son John Shilcock also all that Close called Brockhill Close in the Lordship of Hose in the county of Leicester containing four Acres and an half in the occupation of my said Son Unto and to the Use of my said Son John Shilcock his Heirs and Assigns for ever Subject nevertheless to the payment of the two several Annuities hereinafter bequeathed

I Give unto my Wife Alice Shilcock and her assigns for her life One Annuity of ten pounds of Lawful English money free from all deductions whatsoever and payable half yearly viz the fifth day of April and the tenth day of October in every year the first payment to be made on either of the said days as shall first happen after my decease And I do hereby subject and charge all my said real estate above devised (except the Close called the Brockhill Close) with the true payment thereof And I Give her the same power of Claiming payment thereof as Landlords have for obtaining payment of rent in Arrear

I Give unto my Daughter Mary the Wife of John Roberts and her Assigns for her life One Annuity of Four pounds of lawful English money free from all deductions whatsoever and payable half yearly viz the fifth day of April and the tenth day of October in every year the first payment thereof to be made on either of the said days as shall first happen after my decease And I do hereby subject and charge the said Close called Brockhill Close above devised with the true payment thereof And I Give her the same power of obtaining payment thereof as Landlords have for obtaining payment of rent in Arrear

I Give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Shilcock the sum of One hundred and fifty pounds and Unto my Daughter Hannah Shilcock the Sum of One hundred pounds which I will shall be paid to each of them immediately after my Wifes deceased by my said Son and which legacies I charge upon the Messuage or Tenements and premises I now occupy and the Homestead of four Acres above devised

I Give all my Personal Estate and effects whatsoever of what nature or kind the same may be (subject to the payment of my debts funeral and testamentary expences) unto my said Wife Alice Shilcock for her life And after her decease I bequeath the same unto my four Children John Shilcock Mary Roberts Ann Shilcock and Hannah Shilcock their executors and administrators in equal shares and proportions

And I do appoint my said [“son” missing] John Shilcock Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all others by me made

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of February One thousand eight hundred and thirty seven

John Shilcock of Holwell in the County of Leicester Grazier the Sole Executor in the Will named was duly sworn to the truth and faithful performance thereof as usual and that the goods chattels & Credits of the deceased do not amount in value to the sum of one hundred Pounds and that the deceased died on the fifteenth day of March last
