Thomas Shelton of Scalford 1708 Will

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Shelton the Elder of Scalford in the County of Leicester Blacksmith calling to mind the incertainty of this life doe make and ordeyne this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say)

Impris I commit my Soule into the hands of God that gave it and my Body to the Earth of which it was made dust unto dust in hopes of a Joyfull resureccon in and through the alone merritts of Jesus Christ the righteous and to be decently interred att the discreccon of my Executrix hereinafter named

And as for my worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to intrust me with I dispose thereof as followeth

Impris I give and devise unto my Son Thomas Shelton and to his heires for ever All that Cottage or Tenement with the appurts scituate standing and being in Scalford aforesaid wherein he now dwelleth And alsoe All those severall peices and parcell of land arable meadow and pasture ground with the appurts lying and being dispersedly in the feilds and libertyes of Scalford aforesaid which I formerly purchase of [blank] Shuttlewood widdow Willm Cole and Willm Perkins And alsoe All those severall peices and parcells of land arable meadow and pasture with the appurts which I formerly purchased of my father in Law John Teate And which said Lands are now in the possession of my Son Thomas Shelton

Item I give and devise unto my Loving wife Anne Shelton for and during the terme of her naturall life All that Tenement with the appurts wherein I now dwell and from and imediately after her decease Then I give the said Tenement unto my said son Thomams Shelton & to his heires for ever

Item I give and Devise unto my said Son Thomas Shelton and to his heires for ever All that my Shop belonging to the said last menconed Tenement and all the Tooles and utensils therein

Item I give and devise unto my Son George Shelton and to his heires for ever All that my halfe yard land of arable land meadow and pasture lying & being dispersedly in the feilds and libertyes of Scalford aforesaid which I formerly purchased of John Whittle Togeather with the Comons and advantages belonging to the same And alsoe all that Barne stable and home close adjoyning unto the said Tenement wherein I now dwell

Item I give and devise unto my Said Loving wife Anne Shelton All that Cottage or Tenement with the appurts scituate standing and being in the Harrow Lane in Scalford aforesaid which I formerly Purchased of Willm Francis and after her decease I give the said Cottage or Tenement unto my daughter Frances Blagg the wife of Thomas Blagg of Scalford aforesaid husbandman for and during the terme of her naturall life And from and after the decease of my said wife Anne Shelton and my said daughter Frances Blagg Then I give the same unto Frances Blagg Anne Blagg Mary Blagg Matthew Blagg Thomas Blagg and Elizabeth Blagg Children of the said Thomas Blagg and their heires forever to be equally divided amongst them

Item I give and bequeathe unto Willm Shelton Mary Shelton and Elizabeth Shelton Children of my Said Son Thomas Shelton the Sume of five shillings apeice to be paid them within three Months after my decease by my Executrix herein after named

All the rest of my goods Chattle Chattles and personal estate whatsoever not by me herein before bequeathed I give and bequeathe unto my said Loving wife Anne Shelton whom I make sole Executrix of this my last will and Testament

And I doe hereby revoake all former Wills by me heretofore made

In Wittnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the One and Twenty day of January in the first yeare of the reigne of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland Queene defender of the faith &c Annoq Dni 1702

Know All Men by these presents That I Anne Shelton widow Relict of Thomas Shelton late of Scalford in the County of Leicester Blacksmith deceased and Sole Executrix in and of the last Will & Testamt of the said Thomas Shelton doe for diverse good & valuable considerations me hereunto moving hereby Renounce all my Right, Title & Interest in & to the Proveing this sd Will & to the Administrating of the Goods & Chattells of the sd deceased & do hereby Protest that for the present I have not, nor for the future will intermeddle in or with the Goods or Chattels of the sd Testator or in the Execution of the sd last Will & Testamt & doe hereby desire that the Execution of the sd Will may be comitted and granted unto George Shelton naturall & Lawfull Son of the deceased & Residuary Legatee in the sd Will and that this my Renuntiation may take effect I do hereby appoint & Constitute Mr John Ward my lawfull Procurator to exhibitt this my Renunciation before any Judge competent to admitt of the same & to doe all & every such reasonable & Lawfull act and acts in the premises as he shall find necessary
