William Sharp of Scalford 1630 Will

In the name of God amen I William Sharpe the elder of Scallford in the county of Leicester yeoman being sicke in bodie but of good and perfect memory (God be praysed therefore) doe ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme following That is to say

First I give & bequeath my soule to God my Creator hoping through the merits & mediation of Jhs Christ my only Saviour & Redeemer to be partaker of life everlasting & my bodie to be buryed in Christian buryall in the parish church of Scallforde aforesaid

And my worldly goods I doe give and bequeath in manner and forme following That is to say

First I give to the mother church of Lincolne sixpence

Itm I give and bequeath to my wife two of my best Kine and one swine hogg and three of my best ewes & lambes And it is my will and meaning that shee shall have my house & my halfe yard land during the lease, and afterward too during the tyme of her naturall life (if the lease may be againe renewed) if shee shall so long remaine and continue a widdowe & unmarried But if it shall happen that shee shall marrie againe to any other then shee shall accept & take her owne goods which shee her selfe brought and so depart and goe her way

Itm my will is that shee shall have all the corne about my house except one quarter of mault and one of Barley and one of pease and all my provision for housekeeping, my coles, straw, and hennes, and also the use of all my owne houshold stuffe and goods only during the tyme of her widowhood & provided that she shall not give them nor make any of them away but leave them to my executor, but she shall have liberty to doe what she will with those goods which were hers & which shee brought to mee at my marriage with her

Itm it is my will that (if my Land Ladie shall be pleased to let the house and half yard land) my goods shall pay the rent except only thirteen shillings and foure pence a year: Or if it please my Land Ladie to sell the same my goods shall pay for the purchase of the said house & halfe yard land

Itm I give to Tho: Howit my sonne in law all my Cart geares and two carts my sheepe cratches harrowes my fleakes provided that he give unto my grandchild John Howit foure pounds but Thomas Howitt shall not be troubled to pay the said John Howitt my grandchild the said 4l untill three yeares be fully expired after my decease at which tyme my will is that it shall be satisfyed and payed (unless that the house and halfe yard land aforesaid happen to be bought and purchased, and in the case it is my will that Tho: Howitt shall at the last payment of the said pretended purchase pay the said foure pounds unto the said John Howitt

Itm my will is that Tho: Howit shall pay unto my said grandchild John Howitt the sixeteene pounds which hee oweth mee at the feast of St Michaell the Archangell which shall be foure yeares hence vizt in the year of our Lord God 1634 or in case the house & halfe yard land aforesaid be purchased then the said sixteene pounds shall be payed unto my grandchild John Howitt at the last payment of the said intended purchase or sooner if neede be

Itm tis my will that at some convenient tyme twixt this and midsommer next hee shall sell the kine which fall to John Howitt my grandchild & keepe the money and be answerable to pay it when the said John Howit shall have neede of it, & he shall also sell the sheepe which fall to him before Michaelmas day next & be answerable for the full price & worth of them to pay the same price to John Howitt my said grandchild when neede is in case the house and land be purchased or els at Michaelmas Ao Dom 1634 aforesaid

Item I give to Tho. Howit all the cropp of the ground that belongeth unto his house except one oate land which I reserve for Ann my wife (if she happen to survive)

Itm I give to my daughter Isabell Howitt One two yeare old heifer with a pasture for the same that I hav of Widdow Teate

Item I give unto William Howitt my grandchild one yeareling heifer being the yonger with a pasture for the same that I had of John Robbinson and I doe also give unto my grandchildren Wm Howitt & John Howitt all my holy day or best apparell to be divided betwixt them

Itm I give to my manservant Everat Pepper one paire of breeches which Middleton did of late mend one paire of stockins & one paire of shooes and one leather doublet & one yellow fustian doublet and one working day or ordinary wearing hatt

Itm I give to Kath. Greene my ordinary day or wearing coate to make her a wastcoate

Itm I give unto the poore people of Scallforde to be divided amongst them Tenn shillings

It I give to John Howitt my lease at Hollewell & I doe hereby constitute and appoint my said grandchild John Howitt the full & sole executor of this my last will and testament and my debts & funerall charges or other expences defrayed All my other goods and cattell & chattells whatsoever I doe hereby give unto my said executor John Howitt enioyning him to give in my name unto Steven Awood an Anne Stevenson my godchildren two shillings betweene them

& thus revokeing all former wills & testaments by me formerly made I doe constitute and Appoint this to be my last will and testament & I doe entreat Thomas Howitt my sonne & Charles Noble my kind freinde to be the supervisors of this my last will and testament and I doe further enioyne my said executor John Howitt to give unto them ten groates a peice for their paines
