John Pickard of Long Clawson 1814 Will

In the name of God Amen This is the last Will and Testament of me John Pickard of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Cordwainer

First I give and devise All that my Messuage or Tenement Yard Garden Burying Ground and all the Hereditaments thereto belonging situate standing and being in Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid in my own occupation unto my Friend John Doubleday Senior of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid and my loving Wife Mary Pickard and their Heirs and Assigns Upon Trust nevertheless that they and the Survivour of them his or her Heirs and Assigns Do and shall by mortgage or demise of the said Hereditaments and premises borrow and take up at interest the sum of fifty pounds which sum I direct them him or her to pay and apply in discharge of the Debts which I may owe at my decease

And subject to the said Trust and to the payment of the said fifty pounds I give and devise All my said Hereditaments and premises with their appurtenances unto my said loving Wife Mary Pickard and my son William Pickard in equal shares and proportions for and during the natural Life of my said Wife and from and immediately after her decease I give and devise my said Hereditaments and Premises unto my said son William Pickard his Heirs and Assigns for ever (Subject nevertheless to the payment of the said sum of fifty pounds to be raised by mortgage of the said premises as aforesaid)

And I do hereby expressly will and direct that the Receipt and Receipts of my said Trustees or the Survivour of them his or her heirs and Assigns shall be good and sufficient discharge and discharges to the person or persons who shall advance and lend the said sum of fifty pounds or any part thereof and that the person or persons who shall lend the same shall not be obliged to see to the application thereof or any part thereof or be answerable for the misapplication or nonapplication thereof

And I give and bequeath to my son John Pickard my Daughters Mary Day Ann Pickard Frances Pickard Elizabeth Pickard and Catherine Pickard the sum of one shilling apiece

Lastly I give and bequeath All the residue and remainder of my Goods Chattels Cattle and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said loving Wife Mary Pickard and my said son William Pickard to be equally divided between them Subject nevertheless to the payment of such of my just Debts as the herein before mentioned fifty pounds shall be insufficient to pay and discharge and also subject to the payment of my Funeral and Testamentary expences and I do hereby make and ordain my said Wife Mary Pickard and my said son William Pickard joint Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby ratify and declare this and none other to be my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third Day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eight

Let a Probat be granted to Mary Pickard of Clawson in the County of Leicester widow and William Pickard of the same Parish Cordwainer joint Executrix & Executor within named they the said Mary Pickard & William Pickard being duly sworn as well to the faithful Execution of the Will as that the Testator’s Goods Chattels & Credits do not amount in value to the sum of one hundred pounds
