John Moore of Long Clawson 1746 Will

In the Name of God I John Moore of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson in the County of Leicester husbandman being weak of body but of Sound and perfect mind and Understanding praised be almighty God for the same Do this first day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and forty six Make this last Will and Testament in Manner and forme following that is to say

First I resign my Soul into the hands of almighty God my Creator and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors herein after named

And as for Such temporal Estate which it hath pleased almighty God to bless me with I give and dispose of them same as follows (to Wit)

I give and devise Unto my Eldest Son John Moore and to his heires all that my Messuage or Tenement with the appurtenances thereunto belonging Situate and Standing in Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid wherein my Said Son now lives And also all those four oxgangs of Land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging lying and being in the Several fields and precincts of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid to the Said Messuage or Tenement belonging or appertaining

Subject nevertheless to the payment or yearly rent Charge of twelve pounds to be issuing and payable out of the Said premises Unto my loving Wife Jane Moore for the Term of her natural life by two equal payments (to Wit) on Ladyday and Michaelmas day the first payment to be made at such of the said dayes as shall first and next happen after my decease And I Do hereby devise my said Wife according to her promise to deliver up to my Said Son her Joynture which I made to her upon my Marriage or otherwise by good Conveyances in the law Grant and assure Unto him the said premises in such Manner as he or his Council learned in the law shall advise

Also I give and devise all that my Messuage or Tenement with the appurtenances thereunto belonging Situate and Standing in Claxton other wise Long Clawson aforesaid now in the possession of John Greasley and which I bought of Joseph Fox Unto my Son Edward Moore and to his heires for ever

Also I give and devise Unto my said Son Edward Moore and to his heires all my Share belonging to the Windmill with all my right Interest and title thereto

Also I give and devise all that my Cottage house with the Commons and other appurtenances thereunto belonging Situate and being in Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid now in the possession of Widow Glover Unto my Son Henry Moore his heires and assignes for ever

Also I give and devise all that my half oxgang of Land lying and being in the West end fields of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid which I lately purchased of Richard Smith and Rebecca Smith Unto my daughter Rosamund Moore and her heires for ever

Also I give and bequeath Unto my said Son John Moore all my Goods Chattles and Cattle and all my Crops of corn Grain and Hay and all such tillage land and implements of husbandry which is now in his possession and which is now in or upon or belonging to the said Messuage and four Oxgang hereinbefore mentioned to be devised to him

Nevertheless it is my express Will that my said Son John shall out of the said Goods Cattle and Chattles pay Unto my said daughter Rosamund the Sum of One hundred pounds to be paid to her when she attaines to her full age of One and twenty Years but if she dye before she comes to the age of one and twenty years then I will that the same shall not be paid but be the right of my said Son John provided always nevertheless that if my said daughter Shall dye before she comes to the age of one and twenty years Then I will and I Do hereby give and devise all that my said half oxgang of land with the appurtenances hereinbefore devised to my Said daughter and her heires Unto my Said two Sons Edward Moore and Henry Moore and their heires to take as Tenants in Common

Also all the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Cattle Chattles and personal Estate of what nature kind or quality Soever the same is My debts Legacies and funeral expenses being first thereout paid and discharged I give and bequeath the same Unto my said two Sons Edward Moore and Henry Moore whom I hereby appoint full and Joynt executors of this my Will

Yet nevertheless it is my express Will and Mind that my said two Sons Edward Moore and Henry Moore Shall out of my said personal Estate hereinbefore given them Well and truly pay Unto my said loving Wife the yearly Sum of four pounds for and during the Term of her natural life by two equal payments (to wit) on Ladyday and Michaelmas Day the first payment thereof to be made on such of the said days as shall next happen after my decease

And I Do hereby revoke all former Wills by me Made declaring this to be my last Will and testament

In Witness whereof I the said John Moore the Testator have hereunto Set my hand and Seale the day and yeare first above written
