A Nottinghamshire couple, Mr and Mrs Alfred Herrick of Mill Lane, Hickling celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary yesterday.

They spent the day fairly quietly, although there were many callers to congratulate them.

Mr and Mrs Herrick were married at St. Giles’ Church, West Bridgford. They first lived at Lodge Farm, Kinoulton and then went to Stockerston, Leicestershire. They moved to Hickling 54 years ago.

Mr Herrick, who is 86, is three years older than his wife, and had 12 brothers and sisters. He was born at Kinoulton, and in earlier days was keen on fox-hunting and gardening. For more than 50 years he has been a successful bee-keeper.

His father lived to be 92.
