This is the last will and Testament of me John Marriott of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Gentleman made the Twenty first day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Eighty

First I Give and Devise unto my Younger Son John Marriott All that my Close situate lying and being within the Lordship of Hose in the said County of Leicester called New Close Containing Seven Acres more or less And also all those my two other Closes lying within the Lordship of Hose aforesaid called by the names of the Brockills containing together Twelve Acres more or less And also all those my several pieces and parcels of Arable Lands Ley Meadow and Pasture Ground lying and being within the fields Liberties and precincts of Hose aforesaid and Accounted to be one Oxgang land with all Commons and Appurtenances belonging or appurtaining To hold unto him my said Son John Marriott his Heirs and Assigns for ever Subject to a Mortgage thereupon made by me to Joseph Smally of Sheepshead in the said county of Leicester yeoman which I will and direct he my said Son John shall pay off and discharge

Also I Give and Devise unto my Daughter Frances Marriott All those my two Closes lying and being within the Lordship or Liberty of Wartnaby or Ab Kettleby in the said County of Leicester called the Woulds Closes Containing together Ten Acres more or less and now in my own possession To hold to her my said Daughter Frances Marriott her Heirs and Assigns forever

Also I Give and Devise unto my Daughter Sarah Marriott All that my Messuage or Tenement with the Homestead and Appurtenances situate at Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid and there called the Old House and now in the Tenure of Thomas Whittison And also all that Croft or Home Close to the said Messuage & Adjoining and belonging Containing three Acres more or less and now in the Possession Together with the two little pingles thereto Adjoining and allotted containing three roods more or less now or late in possession of Thomas Swain and John Doubleday To hold unto her my said Daughter Sarah Marriott her Heirs and Assigns for ever

Also I Give and Devise unto my said two Daughters Frances Marriott and Sarah Marriott All that my one undivided moiety or full half part of All that Messuage Tenement or Farm House several Closes pieces and parcels of arable Land Ley Ground Meadow Pasture and Grass Ground with their Appurtenances Situate lying and being at Humberston in the said county of Leicester as the same is now in the occupation of John Iliff and called Iliffs Farm And also one undivided moiety or full half part of all that other Messuage or Tenement with the Appurtenances Situate at Humberston aforesaid now or late Occupied by the said John Illifs Shepherd And also one undivided moiety or full half part of all those two Closes lying and being within the Lordship of Thurnby in the said County of Leicester Containing together Eight Acres more or less and now in the Possession of the said John Iliff his undertenants or Assigns To hold unto them my said two Daughters Frances Marriott and Sarah Marriott and to their respective Heirs and Assigns for ever equally to be divided between them share and share alike as Tenants in Common and not as Joint Tenants

All the rest residue and remainder of my Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever not herein before disposed of And also all my Goods Cattle chattells ready Money and Securities for Money Terms for years and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever within the Kingdom of Great Britain I Give Devise and Bequeath the same and every part and parcel thereof unto my Eldest Son William Marriott his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever Subject nevertheless and I do hereby charge and make chargeable all such the rest residue and remainder of my said Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements and Hereditaments and particularly the Messuage wherein I now Dwell and all my now Inclosures at Claxton otherwise Long Clawson now in my Possession to and with the payment of one Annuity or clear yearly Rent charge of forty Pounds which I Give and Devise unto my Dear and Loving Wife Mary Marriott and her Assigns for and during the Term of her natural life And I do hereby order and direct my said Son William and his Heirs to pay her the same thereout by two half yearly payments to wit, at Lady Day and Michaelmas the first half yearly payment to begin and be made on such of the said Days as shall first and next happen after my Decease And for default of such payment as aforesaid I do hereby Give full power and Authority to and for my said Wife and her Assigns from time to time to enter into and upon the said Premises so particularly charged and to make Distress and Sale in such manner and form as by Law is directed in such Cases

Also I Give and Bequeath unto my said Wife the Sum of Twenty Pounds to be paid her immediately after my Decease by the Executor herein after named Provided always and it is my mind and will that my said Wife shall live and Inhabit with my said Son William during his life But if she should Object so to do Then I Give and Bequeath unto her my said Wife a Bed and Beding and so much and such part or parts of my Houshold Goods and Furniture as shall be Sufficient to furnish her two Rooms with And to be delivered to her when she shall think proper to leave my said Son

And Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and Appoint my said Son William Marriott Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do direct that he pay all my just Debts Legacy and funeral Expences and I Charge all my Personal Estate with the payment thereof
