John Marriott of Long Clawson 1754 Will

In the Name of God Amen I John Marriott the Elder of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Yeoman being in perfect health and of sound Mind Memory and Understanding and Considering the Uncertainty of this life Doe make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to Say)

First of all I give my Soul to God that gave it me And my Body I Committ to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named and as for my worldly Estate which hath pleased God to bless me with I give and dispose thereof as follows

In the first place I give and bequeath unto John Rowse of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid farmer the Sume of Twenty Shillings to be paid him within one Month next after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named

And Also I give and bequeath unto George Rowse of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid Blacksmith the Sume of Twenty Shillings to be paid him within one Month next after my decease by my said Executor

And Also I give and bequeath unto Mary Herett of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid Widow the Sume of Twenty Shillings to be paid her within one Month next after my decease by my said Executor

And Also I give and bequeath unto Frances Allen the Wife of William Allen of Long Billington in the County of Lincoln Labourer the sume of five Shillings to be paid her within one Month next after my decease by my said Executor

And Also I give and bequeath unto Sarah Fawkes the Wife of Thomas Fawkes of Granby in the County of Nottingham farmer the sume of five Shillings to be paid her within one Month next after my decease by my said Executor

And Also I give and bequeath unto Benjamin Lewesley of Sutton in the parish of Granby aforesaid farmer the Sume of Twenty Shillings to be paid him within one Month next after my decease by my said Executor

And Also I give and Devise all and Singular my Lands Closes Tenements and Hereditaments Whatsoever Scituate Standing lying and being in Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid or in the Severall Ends fields liberties precincts and Territories thereof unto my Executor hereinafter named Thomas Rowse of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid Labourer his Heirs and Assigns for ever

[Tear in paper about four words long] the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Stock Cattle Chattells rights Credits and personal Estate of What kind or nature soever (my debts Legacies and funeral Expences being first paid and discharged) I give and bequeath unto the said Thomas Rowse of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid Labourer his Executors Administrators and Assignes Whom I do hereby Appoint full and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament Revoking all former Wills by me att any time heretofore made

In Witness whereof I the said John Marriott the Elder and Testator have hereunto sett my hand an seale this Tenth day of Aprill in the Twenty fifth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the faith and so forth And in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven  Hundred and fifty two
