This is the last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Jarvis of Eastwell in the County of Leicester Spinster

I direct all my just debts funeral and Testamentary expences to be paid

I Give to my Nephew John Holmes the legacy or Sum of Fifty Pounds

And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my Personal Estate and Effects of every description of which I shall die possessed I Give the same equally between my three brothers Richard Joseph and George Jarvis share and share alike

And I do appoint my friends William Clark of Melton Mowbray Auctioneer Executor In Trust of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made

In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and Seal this Twentieth day of January one thousand eight hundred and forty four

William Clark, Melton Mowbray, Auctioneer, the sole Executor, in this will named was duly sworn to the truth & faithful performance thereof as usual, & that the goods, chattels & credits of the deceased without deducting any debts owing to [should be “by”] her therefrom do not amount in value to the sum of four hundred & fifty pounds & that the deceased died on the third day of February Instant.

In the Court of the Commissary of the Lord Bishop of Leicester for the Archdeaconry of Leicester Appeared personally Charles Boyce of Eastwell in the County of Leicester Labourer and made oath that he is one of the subscribed witnesses to the last will and Testament of Elizabeth Jarvis late of Eastwell in the County and Archdeaconry of Leicester Spinster deceased bearing date the twentieth day of January last past now hereunto annexed and marked with the letter (A) and he further made oath that on the twentieth day of January aforesaid the said Testatrix duly executed her said last will by signing her name with a mark at the foot or end thereof and also by her names “Elizabeth Jarvis” being signed by Charles Blagden of Long Clawson in the said County and Archdeaconry Surgeon & Apothecary at her request by her direction and in her presence opposite the Seal appearing on the said Will and by sealing publishing and declaring the same as her last will and testament in the presence of this Deponent and of Peter Turner of Eastwell aforesaid Labourer the other subscribed Witness thereto who were then together present at the same time with the said deceased And this Deponent and the said Peter Turner thereupon attested and subscribed the said Will in the presence of the said Testatrix and of each other they having been present at all and singular the Premises aforesaid

On the Thirteenth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty four the said Charles Boyce was duly sworn at Scalford in the County and Archdeaconry of Leicester to the truth of the aforesaid Affidavit

On the 17th April 1844 Orig Will & affidavit of Charles Boyce exhibited before the Revd Jemson Davies Clerk MA & Surrogate of the Commissary and Probate decreed to pass Seal to the abovenamed William Clark in the presence of
