John Houghton of Saxelby 1759 Will

In the name of god amen July the twenty third one thousand seven Hundred and fifty nine I John Houghton of Saxleby in the County of Leicester Farmer being of Sound mind and perfect Understanding (god be Praised for the Blessing) Do make and Ordain this my Last will and Testament In manner following

Imprimis I Resign my Soul Into the Hands of Almighty god and my Body to the Earth I Commit to be Decently Buried at the Charge of my Executors herein After mentioned

And as for Such Temporal Goods which it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I give and Bequeath the Same In the manner following viz

I Give unto my son John Houghton the sum of one Shilling to be paid by my Executors

Item I Give unto my Daughter Elisabeth Houghton the sum of forty pound to be paid by my Executors when she Arives at the age of twenty four years

Item I Give unto my son Francis Gamble the sum of one Shilling to be paid by my Executors

Item I Give unto my Wife Mary Houghton the sum of thirty pound to be paid by my Executors a twelvemonth after my Decease and I also give unto my said wife one Cow during the term of Her life to be kept at the Charge of my Executors and I also give unto my said wife my best bed and my Executors find her a room during the term of her Life

Item Lastly I Give unto my sons Jasper and Anthony Houghton all my Goods Cattle and Chattles be it of what Nature Or kind Soever and I do hereby Nominate Constitute and appoint my said sons Jasper and Anthony Houghton Jointly my full and Soul Executors of this my last will and Testament Hereby Revokeing all former wills by me made Either by word or in writing and this only to be my Last will and Testament

In witness whereof I the Said John Houghton Hereunto set my Hand and Seal the day and Year first above written

Sign’d sealed published and Declared by the said John Houghton Testator for and as his Last will and Testament In the presence of us who have Subscribed our Names as Witnesses in His presence
