Thomas Hardy of Harby 1721 Will and Inventory

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Hardy of Harby in the County of Leicester Cloth Worker being mindfull of my Mortality doe make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in Manner following

Impris I Give devise & Bequeath All that my Messuage or Tenement with the Appurtenances which I now dwell in And the Homestead thereunto belonging unto my Eldest Son Richard and to his heirs & assigns for ever upon condition that my said Son Richard doe & shall have Charged pay or cause to be paid All such sums of money which I shall have Charged thereupon by Mortgage and Also pay Twenty pounds towards the discharging of my other debts And also pay the further Sume of Twenty shillings yearly unto my wife Elizabeth during her Natural life And also at his & their own proper costs & charges deliver unto my wife yearly & every year for & during the Term of her natural life Twenty hundred of Good Coals four strike of Barly & Two strikes of wheat at the feast of St Michael the Arch Angell in every year or sooner

Also my will & mind further is that my said wife Elizabeth shall have & enjoy to her own proper use for & during her Natural life all the Rooms in the two Bays of Building at the west end of my dwelling house and free Egresse Ingresse & Regresse to the same And that my said Son Richard shall build for her a Chimney & make her a Door to the same at his own proper Charges

Also I Give & bequeath unto my said wife Elizabeth All my Stock of Bees and the use of the Garden they stand in for her life

Also I Give & Bequeath unto my said wife Six pounds worth of my household goods such as she shall thinke fit to Chuse

Also I Give & Bequeath unto my said son Richard All the Tools & Implements belonging to my Trade

Also I Give and Bequeath unto my second Son Joseph the Sume of Twenty pounds to be paid by my Executor hereinafter named within one year next after my decease

Also I Give & Bequeath unto my Eldest Daughter Anne the Sume of five pounds to be paid her within three years next after my decease

Also I Give & Bequeath unto my Second Daughter Sarah the Sume of Ten pounds to be paid her within five years next after my decease

Also I Give & Bequeath unto my third Daughter Margaret the like Sume of Ten pounds to be paid her within Six years next after my decease

Also I Give & bequeath unto my two youngest daughters vizt Dorothy & Mary the Sume of Ten pounds apiece to be paid them at their several ages of three & twenty years

Also my will & mind further is that if any of my said daughters shall happen to depart this life before their portions shall become due & leave noe Issue lawfully begotten then the portion or portions of such daughter or daughter so dying shall accrue to the only benefit of my Executor hereinafter named

Also I Give & bequeath unto my youngest son John the Sume of Twenty pounds to be paid him at the Age of six & Twenty years

Also All the Rest of my personal Estate whatsoever (my Just Debts & funeral Expences being first paid & discharged) I Give & bequeath unto my said Son Richard and do make him Sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament hereby revokeing all former wills & Testaments whatsoever by me at any time heretofore made

In Wittnesse whereof I the said Thomas Hardy have to this my last Will & Testament sett my hand and seal the Seaventeenth day of August in the year of our Lord 1719
