John Greaves of Nether Broughton 1803 Will

In the Name of God Amen This is the last Will and Testament of me John Greaves of Nether Broughton in the County of Leicester Husbandman

First I will and direct that all my just Debts and Funeral and Testamentary expences be well and truly paid And I give and bequeath all my Goods Chattels Chattle Household Furniture ready Money securities for Money the Tenant Right to all the Messuages and Lands which I shall occupy at the time of my decease and all my personal Estate of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever to my loving Wife Jane Greaves for her own proper use only during the term of her natural Life or so long as she shall continue my Widow and unmarried And from and after the decease of my said loving Wife (or her Marriage again) I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Dexter my best Bed in my best room with all the Bed furniture thereto belonging six Chairs and my swing Glass usually being in my said Room and my large oval Table to be delivered to her immediately after the decease of my said Wife

Also I give and bequeath to my said Daughter Jane Dexter the sum of ten pounds to be paid to her by my son Thomas Greaves out of the property hereinafter by me given and bequeathed to him within six Months after the decease of my said Wife

Also I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Marsh and to my Daughter Ann Wright and to my son John Campion the sum of one shilling apiece

Also from and after the decease of my said Wife or her Marriage again I give and bequeath all my Household furniture of what nature or kind soever not herein then disposes of To my sons Thomas Greaves and William Greaves to be equally divided between them share and share alike

And also from and after the decease of my said loving Wife (or her Marriage again) I give and bequeath two full third parts of all my Goods Chattels Cattle and all my personal Estate whatsoever not herein then disposed of to my said son Thomas Greaves (Subject nevertheless to the payment of the sum of ten pounds hereinbefore by me given to my said Daughter Jane Dexter) for his own proper use and benefit and the other remaining third part thereof to my said son William Greaves for his own proper use and benefit

And I do hereby make and appoint my said loving Wife Jane Greaves and my said sons Thomas Greaves and William Greaves whole Executrix and Executors of this my last Will and Testament but I will and direct that my said two sons shall have no power to interfere with the rightful interest of my said Wife under this my Will

And I do hereby revoke all former Wills by me made and do ratify and declare this and none other to be my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the said John Greaves the Testator have hereunto set my hand and Seal this thirtieth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and two

The within written Will and Testament was Signed Sealed published ratify’d and declared by the within written John Greaves the testator as and for his last Will and Testament in our presence who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto having first observed that the Words “in the year of our Lord” were interlined between the last two lines

Let probat be granted to Jane Greaves, & Thomas Greaves, the Executrix & one of the Executors of the within written will, (power at the same time reserved for William Greaves joint executor) they being sworn to the due Execution of the same: & made oath that the whole personal estate of the deceased Testator, at the time of his death did not amount in value to the sum of One hundred pounds
