Demetrius Glenn of Eaton 1749 Will and Inventory

In the Name of God Amen I Demetrius Glenn of Eaton in the County of Leicester Farmer being weak of Body but perfect in Mind & Memory praised be Almighty God do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in Manner & Form as followeth

First of all I give my Immortal Soul into the Hands of God that gave it Hoping thro’ the Death of Jesus Christ my Saviour to be joyfully rec’d at my Resurrection and my Body to be buried in the Parish Church yard of Eaton at the Expence of my Executor hereafter mentioned

And as for my Worldly & Temporal Estate I Dispose of in the following Manner

First of all I give & bequeath unto Mary my Loving wife the Sum of Five pounds yearly During the Term of her Natural Life to be paid Quarterly if demanded by my Executor if she leaves my Executor, but if she stays & remains with him as heretofore then my will & Command is that my Executor shall provide for Mary my Loving Wife sufficient Meat Drink & Apparel fit & Convenient for her during the remaining part of her Natural Life, and she shall have the Sum of ten pounds at her Disposal at her Decease

Also I give to my Cousin Alice the Wife of Robert Squire of Gunnerby Parva the Sum of five pounds

Also I give unto my Cousin Demetrius Glenn Four Loads of Coals at Thirty Hundred in Each Load to be laid down at his own Door one Load yearly by my Executor John Glenn

My Debts my Legacies my Funeral Expences being duly paid & discharged and then all the rest of my Goods Cattles and Chattles & personal Estate unbequeath’d I give & bequeath unto my Cousin John Glenn the Elder making him full Sole & only Executor of this my Last Will & Testament

But my Will and Command further is that if Cousin John Glenn the younger will stay at home & assist his Father then John Glenn the younger shall be Entituld to an equal Share of my Goods Cattles & Chattles &c along with my Executor John Glenn the Elder and I do hereby utterly revoke & renounce all former Wills & Testaments heretofore made by me

In Witness hereof I have hereunto set my Hand & Seal this sixteenth Day of January in the year of Our Lord 1728/9

NB my Will and Command further is that if my wife Mary should leave my Executor that then she shall have one Bed & Bedding along with her such as she shall chuse for herself to lye upon and also fifty shillings in Money upon the Day of her going away over and Above the above mention’d Sum of five pounds per Annum
