Thomas Garton of Cropwell Butler 1632 Will

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Garton of Cropwell Butler in the County of Nott Yeoman being sicke in body but of sound and perfect minde and memory thankes be to God doe ordaine and make this my last Will and testament in manner and forme followinge (viz)

First I give and bequeath my Soule to Allmightie God, assuredly trusting in the merritts, death and passion of Jesus Christ to have forgivenes of my sinnes and my body to be decently buried at the discrecon of my Executrix And for my worldly goods I give and bequeath them in manner and forme following viz

I give and bequeath to my sonne Thomas Garton All that one messuage or tenement and Cottage house together with all and singular the appurtenances as well belonging to the said messuage or tenement as to the said Cottage house Scituate lyinge and beinge in Holme [blank] Musckham and Barlow To have and to hold the same messuage or tenement and Cottage house together with all and Singuler the appurtenances aforesaid to the said Thomas my sonne, and to the heires of his body lawfully begotten and to be begotten for ever And for want of Such heires then to the right heires of my body lawfully begotten and to be begotten for ever

Item I give and bequeath to Robte Garton my sonne fowerscore pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto him at the feast of the Annunciacon of our blessed lady next after my decease and the remaynder of yeares which I have in one lease of pasture ground in the parish of Colston Basset

It I give to my daughter Judith the like some of Fowerscore pounds to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease and that lease of pasture ground which lyeth in the parish of Brantbroughton in the County of Lincolne

And my will is and I doe appointe Robert Moore of Brantbroughton to be the guardian of my daughter Judith and my brother William Garton to be the tutor and Guardian of my sonne Robte

Item I give to my sonne John Fowerscore pounds of like lawfull English money to be paid unto him within three yeares next after my decease And my will is that Margaret my wife shalbe Guardian and Tutor to my sonne John

Item I give to my two daughters Jane and Dorothie to either of them fowerscore pounds of like lawfull money of England, to be paid and delivered to them when they shall successively accomplish the full age of one and twentie yeares or be married And my will is and I appoint my loving wife Margarett to be Guardian and Tutor of my said two daughters

Ite I give and bequeath to my Sonne Michaell the like some of fowerscore pounds of lawfull English money to be paid unto him when he shall accomplish the full age of one and Twenty yeares or be married which shall first happen And my Will is that my said wife shalbe his Guardian and Tutor

Item I bequeath to Thomas Smith & Thomas Garton sonne of William Garton to either of them an Ewe lambe

Item I give and bequeath the some of fortie pounds which my sonne Willm oweth mee and is to be paid at sixe yeares end in manner followinge that is to say tenne pound at sixe yeares end and tenne pounds at Seaven yeares end, and ten pounds at Eight yeares end and ten pound of lawfull English money at nyne yeares end I Give the first tenne pound thereof to my sonne Robte the second tenne pound to my sonne Thomas the third tenne pounds to my sonne John, And the fourth tenne pound to my sonne Michaell

Item I give to my sonne Willm Twelve pence in full satysfaccon of his Childs parte

Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth Twelve pence in full satysfaccon of her childs parte

Item all the rest of my goods Cattells Chattells and Rights my debts legacies and funerall expences first discharged I give and bequeath to my loveinge wife Margaret whom I make Sole Executrix of this my last will

And I appoint her the said Margarett to be the Tutor and Guardian of my sonne Thomas Garton

In witnes whereof I have to this my last will and testament put my hand and seale the Fourteenth day of November in the yeare of our Lord God One thousand sixe hundred Thirty and one
