Thomas Exton of Eastwell 1848 Will

This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Exton of Eastwell in the County of Leicester Grazier

Whereas I am possessed of and absolutely entitled in my own right to certain freehold lands and hereditaments situate and being in the Lordship or Liberties of Newbold in the said County of Leicester which were devised to me my heirs and assigns under the Will of my late Father John Exton And I am also possessed of and absolutely entitled to certain messuages closes lands and hereditaments situate and being in the Lordship or liberties of Scalford in the same County and which were also devised unto me my heirs and assigns under the same Will Now I hereby give and devise unto my brother John Exton with whom I am residing at Eastwell aforesaid all those my freehold lands and hereditaments situate in the Lordship of Newbold aforesaid To hold the same and every part thereof unto and to the use of my said brother John Exton and his assigns for and during the term of his natural life and from and after the decease of my said brother Then I give and devise all those my said freehold lands and hereditaments in Newbold aforesaid unto Charles Campbell Morris of the Parish of Loddington in the said County of Leicester Gentleman To hold the same and every part thereof unto and to the use of the said Charles Campbell Morris his heirs and assigns for ever

I give and bequeath unto Mary Sumner of Eastwell aforesaid one annuity or yearly sum of thirty pounds and to John Cook of Eastwell aforesaid one annuity of five pounds which said several annuities of thirty pounds and five pounds I direct shall be issuing and payable out of my messuages closes lands and hereditaments in the Lordship or liberties of Scalford which I hereby charge with the payment of the same and I direct that the said several annuities shall be paid to the said Mary Sumner and John Cook respectively during their natural lives by equal half yearly payments the first payment thereof to be made at the expiration of six calendar months next after my decease and subject and chargeable with the payment of the said annuities of thirty pounds and five pounds during the respective lives of the said Mary Sumner and John Cook I give and devise all those my said messuages closes lands and hereditaments whatsoever situate and being in the Lordship and Liberties of Scalford aforesaid unto and to the use of my said brother John Exton his heirs and assigns for ever

I give and bequeath to the Governor and Directors or other the Superintendants for the time being of the Lunatic Asylum at Leicester a legacy of fifty pounds and I also give and bequeath to the Governor and Directors or other the Superintendants for the time being of the Old Infirmary at Leicester a like legacy of fifty pounds which said several legacies I direct shall be applied for the benefit of the said Lunatic Asylum and Infirmary and shall be paid within six calendar months next after my decease free from all deductions whatsoever

I give and bequeath unto my esteemed friend The Reverend Joseph Bick of Eastwell aforesaid the sum of five pounds to be by him distributed amongst the poor of the said parish of Eastwell in such manner as he in his discretion shall think fit

And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever subject to the aforesaid legacies which I direct shall be paid thereout and to the payment of all my debts and funeral and testamentary expences I give and bequeath the same unto Mary Ann Saffary Widow now residing at Kensington in the County of Middlesex and Charlotte Ho..s equally to be divided between them share and share alike

I nominate and appoint the said Reverend Joseph Bick Clerk sole Executor of this my Will and hereby revoking all former or other wills do declare this to be my last Will and Testament

In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this twelfth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six
