John Doubleday of Long Clawson 1817 Will

In the name of God Amen This is the last Will and Testament of me John Doubleday of Long Clawson otherwise Claxton in the County of Leicester Grazier

I give and bequeath all my Estate and Effects unto my eldest Son John Doubleday Subject nevertheless to the payment of my debts and the provision hereinafter made for my Wife and my other Children

As to my Wife it is my Will that she be maintained by my Son John comfortably but should she part from my said son John I direct that my said son on such parting shall either pay her the sum of two hundred pounds or secure to her the payment of an Annuity of twenty pounds a year to be paid quarterly for the remainder of her Life and that she shall take also in Goods Linen or other Household furniture or effects to the value of thirty pounds

Having already given to My Daughter Mary Julian as much or more than I can give to my other Children I direct that she shall receive the sum of two pounds for mourning

I give to my son Thomas the sum of Forty pounds to be paid to him within two years after my Death

I give to my Daughter Catherine the sum of Forty pounds to be paid to her within four years after my Death

As to my Son William who has resided with my Brother I give him five pounds to be paid to him within twelve calendar Months after my Death but if his Uncle should not leave him property to the amount of Forty pounds I direct that including the above Legacy and what (if anything) his Uncles leaves him he may have Forty pounds the remainder to be paid within twelve Months after his Uncles Death

I give to my Son George the sum of Forty pounds to be paid to him within three years after my Death

I give to my Son James the sum of forty pounds to be paid to him within two years after my Death

I direct that my son Edward be clothed during his Apprenticeship and that on his attaining his age of twenty two years he shall receive the sum of twenty pounds

I direct that my Daughter Ann shall be maintained by my son John till she is capable of getting her own living and that on her attaining the age of twenty two years she shall receive the sum of forty pounds

I direct that my son Samuel shall be put out to a business suitable for him and maintained during his Apprenticeship and that on his attaining the age of twenty two years he shall receive the sum of forty pounds

And I appoint my said son John Doubleday sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament

Let a Probate be made to John Doubleday of Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Farmer and Grazier the sole Executor named in the will of the deceased who died in the month of August last

He being duly sworn as well to the faithful Execution of the will as that the testator’s goods chattels and credits as they were at his death without deducting any debts owing by the deceased therefrom did not amount in Value to the Sum of Six Hundred Pounds
