William Daft of Long Clawson 1684 Will and Inventory

In the name of God Amen The two and twentieth day of July in the thirty sixth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland [“King” missing] defender of the faith &c I William Daft of Claxton als Long Clawson in the County of Leicester yeoman being sick in body but of a sound mind and memory Praise be give to God for the same, And knowing the uncertainty of this life on Earth, and being desirous to settle my estate in order, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, That is to say

First and principally I commend my soul to Almighty God my creator and redeemer assuredly beleeving that I shall receive full pardon and free remission of all my sins and be saved by the precious death and meritts of my blessed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ, And my body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be buried in such decent and Christian manner as my Executors hereafter named shall thinke meet and convenient, and as touching such worldly estate as the Lord in mercy hath bestowed upon me, I dispose in manner following

First I give and bequeath unto my brother John Daft the sume of ten pounds and a bedsted bed and all furniture thereunto belonging

Item I give and bequeath unto William Leavers five shillings

Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Leavers five shillings

Item I give and bequeath unto Alice Leavers five shillings

Item I give and bequeath unto William Henson five shillings

Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Henson five shillings

Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Henson five shillings

Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Henson five shillings

Item I give and bequeath unto Samuel Sharp one shilling

Item I give and bequeath unto Samuel Sharp son of the aforesaid Samuel Sharp of Redmile one shilling

Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Knott five pounds

Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Knott five pounds

Item I give and bequeath unto the poor of Long Clauson one pound

Item All the rest and residue of my goods and Chattells not allready disposed of after my debts paid and funeral expences discharged I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Ann Daft and Sarah Sharp of Redmile to be equally divided betwixt them

And I make and appoint Mr Robert Hickling and my brother John Daft both of Long Clauson my sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament and I do renounce and make void all former Wills by me made

Item I William Daft doe give my brother John Daft all my wearing clothes

Item I William Daft do further declare that it is my Will that my Brother John Daft shall enter upon and enjoy to him and his for ever the three lands and six feet of Comon thereunto belonging and do hereby give and bequeath it to him immediately after my decease

Item I do further declare that it is my will that what remains of money or goods of my wives after her death and all funerall expences descend and be given unto Sarah Sharpe of Redmile and if she should die before my wife to descend unto my brother John Dafte

Item I do further declare that if Sarah Sharpe should die before she can give a discharge for her part before bequeathed that my will is that it descend or ascend to my brother John Dafte

Item My desire is that my wife have the first choice of a bed and furniture
