Elizabeth Daft of Hickling 1798 Will and Declaration

In the name of God Amen This is the last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Daft of Hickling in the county of Nottingham Spinster I Give Devise and Dispose of my real and personal estate and effects in manner and form following (that is to say)

I Give and Devise all that my Messuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell situate and being in Hickling aforesaid with the yard garden outbuildings and appurtenances thereto belonging and all other my real estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto and to the use of my sister Sarah the wife of Thomas Tyler and of her heirs and assigns for ever Provided nevertheless and I do hereby order and direct that Andrew March and Ann his wife who now reside with me shall after my decease be permitted to live and reside in my said Messuage for so long a time of their respective natural lives as they or either of them shall think fit paying to the said Sarah Tyler her heirs or assigns the yearly rent or sum of Thirty shillings clear of the Land Tax and all other deductions by two equal half yearly payments the first payment thereof to begin and be made at the end of six calendar months next after my decease

I Give and Bequeath to my niece Elizabeth Clarke the sum of Three pounds three shillings and to her sisters Sarah Clarke and Mary Clarke the sum of One Guinea each to be paid by my Executrix hereinafter named immediately after my decease

I Give and Bequeath unto John Morris of Hickling aforesaid all that my Stocking Frame with the Jack moulds and appurtenances thereto belonging and which said frame is of the number or sort commonly called and twenty four gage Upon this express condition nevertheless that he the said John Morris shall and do pay or cause to be paid unto his Mother Ann Morris of Hickling aforesaid for and during the term of her natural life weekly and on the Monday in every week the sum of one shilling and in case the said John Morris shall omit or neglect for the space of three weeks to pay the said weekly sum of one shilling Then I Give and bequeath the said frame with the Jack moulds and appurtenances thereto belonging unto the said Ann Morris to and for her own use and benefit

I Give and Bequeath unto Ann the wife of the said Andrew March all that my other stocking frame with the Jack moulds and appurtenances thereto belonging and which said last mentioned frame is of the number or sort commonly called an eighteen gage to and for her own use and benefit upon this express condition nevertheless that she the said Ann March or the said Andrew March her husband shall and do pay or cause to be paid unto the said Ann Morris (mother of the said Ann March) for and during the term of her natural life weekly and on the Monday in every week the sum of one shilling and in case the said Ann March or the said Andrew March shall omit or neglect for the space of three weeks to pay the said weekly sum of one shilling Then I give and bequeath the said last mentioned frame unto the said Ann Morris for her own use and benefit

I Give and Bequeath unto Elizabeth the wife of John Barnet of Long Claxton in the county of Leicester my best feather bed and the bedding thereto belonging and also the chest of Drawers and the Swing Glass in the Chamber where I sleep and all the pewter which shall be in my dwelling house at the time of my decease and also six Brown chairs and six china cups and saucers and also the silver spoons and the large Tea Kettle to and for her own use and benefit

I Give and Bequeath my Black Silk handkerchief and my red clock unto the said Sarah Tyler

And as to for and concerning all the rest residue and remainder of my household goods furniture and wearing apparel not hereinbefore otherwise given and disposed of I Give and Bequeath the same and every part thereof unto the said Ann Morris her Executors Administrators and Assigns And I Give and Bequeath all my ready money and Securities for money rents and arrears of rent and all the residue of my personal estate and effects whatsoever not herein before disposed of subject nevertheless to the payment of all my just debts and funeral expenses and the Legacies by this my will given unto my said sister Sarah Tyler her Executors Administrators and Assigns And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Sarah Tyler sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made

In Witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Daft the Testatrix have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the Eighth day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Ninety Eight

A Declaration instead of an Inventory of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of Elizabeth Daft late of Hickling in the County of Nottingham and Diocese of York Spinster deceased made by Sarah Tyler the sister and sole Executrix of the last Will and Testament of the said deceased

The said Sarah Tyler hereby declares that to the best of her knowledge and Belief the said deceased’s Personal Estate and Effects would not at the time of her death exceed the Value of Ninety nine pounds
