John Cross of Hose 1776 Will

In the name of God Amen I John Cross the elder of the parish of Hose in the County of Leicester being mindfull of my mortality do make and ordain this my Last Will and testament in manner Following that is to say first and principally I Commend my Soul to the Almighty who gave it and my Body to the dust from whence it was taken to be decently interred at the charge and discretion of my Executor hereinafter named

And for those Worldly goods of which I may die possess’d I dispose of the same as follows

First I give to my Son John Cross the Sum of Fifteen Pounds

I also give to my daughter Mary the Wife of John Dalby the Sum of Fifteen pounds & my Will is that they the said Legacies be paid to the respective Legatees within twelve months after my decease and my will further is that if either my Said Son or daughter should happen to depart this Life before his or her Legacy become Due, that then his or her Legacy be paid to the Child or Children of Such deceased Legatee in equall Shares

I also give to my Daughter Elizabeth the Widow of John Wiseman the Sum of Fifteen Pounds to be paid her by my Executor within twelve Months after my decease

I also give to my Granddaughter Elizabeth the daughter of my late daughter Ann Cross the Sum of Twenty Five pounds to be paid by my Executor and by him apply’d towards the maintenance and Education of my said Granddaughter in such manner and at such time or times as he shall see Convenient

I also give to my Son in Law William Rouse the Sum of Four Pounds

I also give to Grandaughter Mary the daughter of John Dalby my Oval Table that stands in my Parlour

Also the then rest and residue of my Goods Chattels Cattle money Securities for money &c and personal Estate of what nature or kind the same are and in whose Custody it may be found (after all the aforesaid Legacies are paid and my Just debts and funeral Expences Discharged) I give to my Son William Cross whom I hereby nominate and appoint full and Sole Executor of this my Will hereby revoking all former Wills at any time heretofore by me made confirming this only as my last Will and Testament

In Wittness whereof I the said Testator have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Twenty third day of August One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy three

Signed sealed published and declared by the within named Testator for and as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have Subscribed our names as Witnesses in his Presence at his request
