William Cook of Long Clawson 1746 Will

I William Cook of Long Clawson in the County of Leicester yeo Do make and ordain this My Last will and Testament in manner and form following, first I commit my Soult into the hand of God who gave it hopeing through the Merits of Christ to have a pardon for all my Sins and my body to the Earth, and as for my Temporall things I dispose of them in manner and form following

First I give to my Son Joseph the Sum of fourty pounds to be paid by My Executor or Executrix when he cometh at the age of one and Twenty Years

Item I give to my Son Thomas the Sum of fourty pounds to be paid by My Executor or Executrix when he cometh to the Age of one and Twenty Years

And further my Mind and will is that my two Sons Joseph and Thomas Cook shall Live peaceably and Quietly with my Son William Cook & his mother till they Come to the age of one and twenty years; and be diligent to him; but if Either of My Sons Cannot agree to Live with my Son William; then my Son William Cook is to Supply them with what they want at there goeing away from him and they must Look to them Selves; and he must Stop it at the age of one and Twenty years when they Come to age of one and Twenty years

And for this my Minde and will is that if my wife will not be willing to Stay with my Son William Cook but will leave him, then Shee may Try whether Shee can do better for her Self; but if Shee be content to Say [sic] with him; I order him to take particular Care of her; and use her well and not Suffer any one about him to do her any Wrong

And further my Minde and will is that My Brother William Cowe and Thomas Burroughs do Over See my Son and Wife that they advise them; and not Suffer them to do my children any wrong and that is my Son Joseph Cook and Thomas Cook

And Lastly I make my Son William Cook and My Wife Elizabeth Cook Sole Executor and Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament on the Condition that my aforesd wife continue with my Son William Cook or Else If She Leave him I make my Son William Cook Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament

And Last of all If my Son William be reduced that he be not so able as at my Disceace then my Son Joseph Cook and my Son Thomas Cook Shall Each of them abate ten pounds; and there portions shall be but thirty pounds Each; which is my Last Will and Testament in Wittness where of I have Set my hand and Seal the fifteenth Day of August in the Eighteenth Year of our Sovereign Lord King George the 2d and in the year of our Lord 1744
