John Clayton of Long Clawson 1792 Will

In the name of God amen I John Clayton of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson in the County of Leicester farmer being mindful of my mortality do make and ordain my last Will and Testament in Manner following that is to say first and principally I commend my Soul to God who gave it and my Body to the dust from whence it was taken and Concerning those Worldly goods of which I may die possest I dispose thereof as follows

First I give to my daughter Ann Clayton the Sum of Twenty Pounds

I Also give to my daughter Sarah Clayton the sum of ten pounds and my Will is that these two Legacies become due twelve months after my decease

I Also give to my Grandson William Clayton the sum of ten Pounds to be paid to him when he shall attain the age of twenty one Years

I Also give to my said daughter Ann Clayton one Bed and furniture Compleat a Clock and such other houshold goods as My Executor herein after named shall Choose to part with as shall together with the Bed and Clock before Mentioned not amount to more than the sum of Five pounds

I Also give to my daughter Sarah Clayton as many houshold goods and such as My Executor shall Chuse as shall Not exceed in Value the sum of two pounds

All the then residue of my houshold goods Implements of Husbandry Cattle Chattles and personal Estate of all kinds whatsoever and wheresoever (after all my Just debts and Funeral expences are paid and discharged) I give to my Son Thomas Clayton whom I hereby Nominate and appoint full and Sole Executor of this my Will hereby revoking all former and other Wills at any time heretofore by me made Confirming this only as my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the Said Testator hath hereunto set my hand and Seal this Seventh day of December One Thousand seven Hundred and ninety One

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Testator for and as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have Subscribed our Names as Witnesses in his Presence and in the presence of each other

Let a probate be made to Thomas Clayton the sole Executor within named he being duly sworn as well to the faithful Execution of the Will as that the Testator’s Goods, Chattels and Credits do not amount in Value to the sum of One hundred pounds
