With the name of the Lord I Seth Carter, in the Parish of Scalford in the County of Leicester Grazier being of sound mind at this time I do Declare this to be my last Will and Testament

I therefore give and Bequeath all my Personal Property consisting of money goods and chattels to Elizabeth Goodson, the said Wife of Richard Goodson of Scalford Grazier at my Decease and therefore leave the foresaid Elizabeth Goodson my whole and sole Executor after Paying all my lawful depts and Funeral Expences and Legacys left by me the said Seth Carter, to the following Persons Viz

To Alice Love my Housekeeper one Hundred Pounds and to John Wells Ten Pounds now living at Scalford, and to George Welsh now living in London one Hundred Pounds and part of my wearing apparel, And to Elizabeth Wells Daughter of John and Mary Ann Wells of Scalford Nineteen Guineas, And to Sibella Wells Daughter of the late Edward and Jane Wells of Worcester Nineteen Guineas, And to Mary Chester Widow of John Chester of Nether Broughton Leicestershire Nineteen Guineas if she is the longest liver if not the Nineteen Guineas not to be Paid

And to the Wesleon Chapel And Primitive Chapel Five Pounds Each both in Scalford, And to Each of my  Trustees Ten Pounds that is to say Richard Goodson of Scalford Grazier, and Samuel Wells of Ab Kettleby Grazier to Settle my affairs for the said Elizabeth Goodson

I direct that the foresaid Legacys left by me to be Paid at the end of six months

November 2th one Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty nine

Signed by the said Seth Carter [the words “Seth Carter” were his signature entered in a space left in the text] the Testator in Presence of us Present at the same time who in his presence have subscribed our names as Witnesses

Appeared personally Ralph Atkinson of Scalford in the County and Archdeaconry of Leicester Schoolmaster and made oath that he is one of the subscribed witnesses to the last will and Testament of Seth Carter late of Scalford aforesaid Grazier deceased bearing date the second day of November one thousand eight hundred and forty nine now hereunto annexed and marked with the letter A and he further made oath that one the second day of November aforesaid the said Testator duly executed his said last will by signing his Name at the foot or end thereof in the presence of this Deponent and of Thomas Hewardine of Scalford aforesaid the other subscribed Witness thereto who were then together present at the same time with the said deceased And this Deponent and the said Thomas Hewardine thereupon attested and subscribed the said Will in the presence of the said Testator and of each other

Elizabeth the wife of Richard Goodson of Scalford in the County of Leicester Grazier the sole Executrix in this Will named was duly sworn to the Truth and faithful performance thereof as usual and that the Goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased do not amount in value to the Sum of One thousand five hundred Pounds and that the deceased died on the Fifth day of February last past
