This is the last Will and Testament of me John Carter of Marwood in the County of Leicester Farmer and Grazier

First I direct all my just debts funeral and Testamentary Expenses be fully paid

I Give and Devise all those my stables yard … and premises situate in the Thorpe and in Melton Mowbray in the said county of Leicester unto my dear Wife Elizabeth her heirs and assigns for ever

I  Give and bequeath all the … live and dead stock cattle chattels cropping and implements of husbandry belonging to and which shall be upon my farm in Waltham on the Woulds at the time of my decease unto … John Thomas Carter absolutely subject to his paying to my Wife one half the amount in value of such personal Effects … I hereby give and bequeath to my said Wife absolutely And … purpose of ascertaining and determining the value thereof my said Executors hereinafter named immediately after my … to take and make a fair inventory and valuation of such personal Effects as aforesaid

I Give and bequeath unto each … daughters Lucy Ann Carter and Elizabeth Carter the Legacy … One hundred Pounds a piece which I direct shall be paid to … them upon their respective days of marriage by my said … out of my personal Estate hereinafter bequeathed to her and I hereby subject and charge with the true payment thereof

… and bequeath all the live and dead stock cattle chattels … and implements of husbandry upon my Farm at Goadby … also my Melton Mowbray Canal share together with all the … and residue of my personal Estate and effects of whatsoever … wheresoever situate unto my said wife absolutely subject nevertheless to the payment of the aforesaid Legacies to my said daughters

I hereby nominate and appoint Joseph Copley of Melton Mowbray aforesaid and William Shipman of Waltham on the Wolds in the said County Graziers Executors of this my Will

In Witness whereof I the said John Carter the Testator have to this my Last Will and Testament set my hand this twenty seventh day of … One thousand eight hundred and sixty

Sworn under £2,000 and that the Testator died on the fifteenth day of June 1863
