John Bates of Wartnaby 1838 Will

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Bates of Wartnaby Lodge in the County of Leicester Grazier

I direct all my just debts funeral and Testamentary expences to be fully paid

I Give All my Household Furniture Plate Linen Glass China Dairy and Brewing Vessels and half the Stock on my Farm And also half of All other my Personal Estate and Effects unto my affectionate Wife Sarah Bates for her own use absolutely

And as to the other half of my Farming Stock and the Remaining half of the Residue of my Personal Estate and Effects I Give the same Unto my brother Thomas Bates for his absolute use Subject nevertheless to his paying out of such Moiety to my Sister Mary Talton the Sum of Nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings within twelve months after my death

And I appoint my said Wife Sarah Bates Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me made

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th day of April 1837

Let a Probate be made to Sarah Bates of Wartnaby Lodge in the County of Leicester Widow the sole Executrix named in the Will of the deceased

The said Sarah Bates having been duly sworn as well to the faithful Execution of the Will as that the Testators Goods Chattels and Credits without deducting any debts owing by the deceased therefrom do not amount in value to the Sum of three hundred pounds and that the Testator died on the 10th day of December last past
