In the name of God Amen, the twoe and twentieth daye of December In the yeares of the raygne of our Soveraigne Lord James by the grace of god of England, Scotland, France & Ireland kinge defender of the faith &c that is to saye of England France and Ireland the thirteenth and of Scotland the fortye ninth and in the yeare of our Lord Chryst one thousand sixe hundred and fyfteene I Neville Bardsey of Scalford in the Countye of Leycester in the Dyoces of Lincolne gent being somewhat sicklye of bodye yet of perfect memorye (praysed be god) doe make and ordayne this my Laste wille in manner and forme followeing That is to saye

Fyrste I Comend my Soule to god the maker hopeing assuredly through his mercye & only meryttes of Jesus Chryste my Savyor to be made partaker of Lyfe eternall and my Bodye I wille to be buryed in Chrystyane buryall by my father his corpes in the Chancell of Scalford aforesaid

Itm I will that my Executrix upon the daye of my funeralle or within one moneth after shall give and dystrybute among suche of the poore people of the towne of Scalford aforesaid as she shall understand to have moste need the some of twentye shillinges

Itm I wille and bequeath to the Mother Church of Lincolne twelve pence

Itm I will give and devyse to Margerye my Wife for and in Lewe and in full satysfactyone of her thyrds of all my Lands tenths and herydataments wherof she after my death (yf she survyveth me) is, shalbe or maye be …eable, by the Lawes or Costomes of this realme of England that my Lease of the farme which I Latly purchased in … for my two sonnes Christopher and Neville and theyr heyres for ever of one Lodvicke Kempe of Scalford aforesaid scytuate, Lying, and being, in the towne, feylds, & terrytoryes of Scalford abovesaid wyth the revercon and remainder of the said Lease to her onlye and proper use

Itm I will and devise unto her the said Margerye my wife, to the end that portyons in … be raysed and provyded for my Chyldren, all that annuytye or yearly rent of fytye pounds of Current Englyshe monyes, which my eldest sonne James Bardsey his heyres or assiynes, for and in Consyderatyone of that estate which I made over to him and his heyres at or before the time of his marryedg … , and … to paye every yeare, at the Feastes of Saint Mychaell the Archangle, and the annuntyacon of Marye the Vergine, by equall porcons to me and Margery my wife, and to the survivor of us boath, during all the whole time of boath and each of our naturall Lives as by a payre of Indentures more at Lardge doath or Maye appeare

Itm I will give and bequeath all my draughtes, horses, Cart and Cartgeares, ploughes and plough geares sheepe, kine, and Cattell, all my Corne and Crapes all my debtes, dues and demands, wyth all other my moveable goods which shall belong unto me, and be my proper goods at the time of my death [no beneficiary named]

Itm I will and bequeath to my sonne Anthony the some of one hundreth pounds of Lawfull Englyshe moneyes more and above that he hath allreadye Received within twelve monethes after the date of thes presents to be paid

Itm I will and devysee to my Sonne Edmond over and above that which he hath already receaved the next presentatyon of the vycaredg of Scalford above said which was Latly regraunted confirmed to my said sonne James Bardsley By Jno Wearing gent, and for the performance whereof my Sonne James stands bound in a bond of two hundred pounds

Itm I will and bequeath to my sonne George the sone of two hundred pounds of Lawfull Englishe moneyes to be paid unto him within three monethes after he Cometh forth of his apprentishippe, provided that yf my said Sonne George Contracte marryedg with womane without the Consent and agreement of my Executrix and Supervizors of this my will, then my will and meaninge is devyse and give unto him the some of three pounds sixe shillings eight pence of Lawfull Englishe monies, and then the remainder of the said some of two hundred pounds to go to and remaine to my Chyldren, Anthony, Edmond, Chrystopher, Nevile and Susanna equally to be devyded amongst them all

Itm I will devyse and bequeath to my two Sonnes Chrystopher and Nevile all that my farm or messuadg with the appurtenances (which I Latly purchased of Lodwicke Kempe) after the full end and terme of the Lease aforesaid devised to my wyfe, equally to be devyded between them and theyre heyres for ever, Provyded that yf my said sonnes Chrystopher and Nevil or eather of them contracte Matrymonye without the consent and agreement of my Executrix and Supervysors wille, then my will and meaning is to devyse and give to him soe marryed only three pounds sixe shillings and eyght pence, and then the resydewe and remainder of his portyone to retorn and remaine to my other Chydren Anthony, Edmond George and Susanna equally to be devyded amongst them

Itm I will devyse and bequeath unto my daughter Susanna two hundred pounds of Lawfull Englishe monyes to be paid unto her at the age of eyghteene years or at the day of her marryadg which shall fyrst happen Provyded that yf my said daughter Susanna Contract marryadg without the Consent and agreement of my Executrix and Supervysors of this my will, then my will and meaning is to devyse and give unto her soe marryed only three pounds sixe shillings and eyght pence, and the resydew and remainder of her portyone of two hundred pounds to retorne remaine and be unto my Chyldren Anthony Edmond George Chrystopher & Nevile equally to be devyded amongst them

Itm I will and bequeath unto my daughter Marye an Ewe and a lambe or x shillings in monye, to be paid unto her within sixe monethes after my decease

Itm my will and meaning is that yf anye of my Chyldren dye in theyre mynorytye, before marryadg and before they come to one and twenty yeares of age, that then the part and portyone of that or thos my Chyldren or Chyld soe deceased shalbe, retorne and remaine unto those my Chyldren Anthony, Edmond George Chrystopher Nevile and Susanna, or unto some of them which at that time by Gods providence shalbe living equally to be devyded amongst them

Itm I will and bequeath unto Dorothy Bardsey and Margerye Bardsey my grand children to ech of them an ewe and a Lambe, or else to ech of them an angell in gould

Itm I will and bequeath unto my grandchyld James Bardsey one ewe and a lambe or else an angell in gould

Itm I will and bequeath unto my grand chyld John Frysbye one ewe and a lambe or else an angell in gould

Itm I will and bequeath unto every one of my servants which shall then be dwelling with me at the time of my death five … a peece

And of this my Laste will and testament I doe make constitute and ordayne the said Margerye my wife my Sole and only executrix and allsoe I will and chardg my eldest sonne James Bardsey, to whome I gave the greatest part of my estate at the time of his Marryedg and my Sonne Edmond Bardsey to be Supervysors

And I doe further desyre and Chardg said Executrix & Supervysors that of duty and charytye every one of them will remember at the makeing of theyre will to name and in theyre places substitute such theyre trustye frynds to see this my will performed until my yongest Chyld be at full age, as they would for theyre owne, the which personnes see them married
