George Banks of Stathern 1641 Will

In the name of God Amen I George Banckes Parson of Statherne in the County of Leicester doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme following

First I comend my sowle into the hands of Allmightie God and my body to the earth

Item I bequeath to the parishioners of Cherrie Hinton in the County of Cambridge where I was vicar twenty nobles of Lawfull English money to be imployed by them as stocke to yeild the poore of that towne tenne shillinges yearlie to be distributed amonge them uppon Christmas Eve And if att any tyme soe much money bee not that day distributed Then it shalbe Lawfull for the Master and Fellowes of St Peters Colledge in Cambridge to call for, receave, and take the said twenty nobles as a legacie to them due by this my last will, to bee bestowed in books for their Colledge librarie

Item I bequeath to my brother John  Bancks fortie pownds of the like money

Item I bequeath to my sister Margarett my brother in Lawe John Westrayes wife fortie shillinges of like money

Item I bequeath to fower of their youngest children not married thirty pownds of like money to bee equallie devided amonge them

Item I bequeath to theire eldest sonne William Westray fortie shillinges of like money

Item I bequeath to fower of the youngest children left by my brother in Lawe John … deceased thirty pownds of like money to bee equallie devided amonge them

Item I bequeath to their sister married to one Atkinson the some of ten pownds of like money to bee delivered into the hands of my brother John Banckes and by him to her as hee shall thincke needfull and fittinge

Item I bequeath to Richard Banckes the sonne of my brother Thomas Bankes deceased twenty nobles of like money

Item I bequeath to his twoe sisters Elizabeth and Margarett twenty markes of like money to bee equallie devided between them

Item I bequeath to the two children left by my brother Anthonyes sonne deceased ten pownds of like money to bee equally devided amonge them

Item I bequeath to my Cosen John Bancks C…maker Twenty shillings of like money

Item I bequeathe to Edward Finch of Cherrie Hinton in Cambridgeshire fortie shillinges of like lawfull money for his eldest daughter Mary whom hee had by John Stubbins daughter

Item I bequeath to Stephen Jolly which was my Clarke there ten shillinges of like money

Item I bequeath to the poore of this parrishe of Statherne forty shillinges of like money

All the rest of my goods unbequeathed I give to my brother Mr Symon Banks parson of South Stoke neare to Arrundell in Sussex whom I make sole executor of this my last will and testament

In witnes whereof I the said George Bancks have heereunto putt my hand and seal the nine and twentith day of Aprill one thowsand six hundred and forty one
