Thomas Baker of Scalford 1709 Will

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Baker of Scalford in the County of Leicester Husbandman calling to mind the uncertainty of this life do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner following that is to say

Imprimis I commit my soul into the hands of God that gave it & my body to the earth of which it was made dust to dust in hopes of a joyfull resurrection in & through the alone merits of Jesus Christ the righteous to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor herein after named

And as for my worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to entrust me I dispose thereof as followeth

Imprimis I give & devise unto my son William Baker & to his heirs for ever all that house or tenement with the appurtenances situate standing & being in Scalford aforesaid wherein he now dwelleth & also that house or tenement wherein Ralph Barks now dwelleth & also that two yard land & a quarter lying & being in Scalford aforesaid

Item I give & devise unto my son William Baker all the stock arising from the two yard land & a quarter aforesaid with all the goods cattell & chattels which I am now possess’d with

Item I give & devise unto my daughter Mary Baker the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid her after my loving wife’s decease by my son Wm Baker aforesaid

Item I give & devise unto my loving wife Mary Baker all those several peices & parcels of land arable meadow & pasture lying & being in Colson Bassett commonly known or called by the name of the Swob Closes for & during the term of her natural life And after her decease I give those several peices & parcels of land in Colson Basset aforesaid to my son Wm Baker aforesaid Whom I make sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament

And I do hereby revoke all former Wills by me heretofore made

In Witness I have hereunto set my hand & seal this twelth day of September in the eight year of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the Grace of God of Great Brittain France & Ireland Queen Defender of the faith Annoque Dom 1709
