Francis Bailey of Eaton 1813 Will and Inventory

This is the last Will and Testament of me Francis Bealey of Eaton, in the County of Leicester, Grazier as follows

First I give and bequeath unto my two Friends, Francis Shelton and John Sills, both of Eaton, in the said County of Leicester, Graziers, all my Personal Property, as Executors in Trust (subject to the payment of my Debts and Funeral Expences) together with my Tenant right to the Farm at Eaton aforesaid which I now hold for the benefit of my Nephew Richd Bealey

I give and bequeath to my Sister Dorothy Jackson the sum of four hundred and fifty Pounds

I also give unto my Sister Dinah Stevens the sum of three hundred and fifty Pounds which I request my Executors to put out to Interest on good Security for her to receive the Interest during her Life, and at her Decease, the Principal to be equally divided among her Children, as they come to the Age of twenty one Years

And I further give unto my Brother Willm Stevens the sum of fifty Pounds, and also the fifty Pounds which I let him have on the Writings of the House they live in

I also give unto my Nephew Thos Jackson the sum of twenty Pounds

I also give unto my Niece Eleanor Attewell the sum of thirty Pounds

I further give unto Dinah and Richd Jackson Junr the sum of twenty Pounds each the last three Legacies to be put out to Interest till they come to the Age of twenty one Years separately and in case any of the three last mentioned die before they arrive to that Age, then the sum or Sums to be equally divided between my Sisters Dorothy and Dinah or their issue

I also give unto my illegitimate Daughter Frances Simson the sum of twenty Pounds to be put to Interest the Father and Mother to receive the Interest while she comes to the Age of twenty one Years – if in case she don’t arrive to that Age then the twenty Pounds to become the Property of my Sisters Dorothy and Dinah equally, or their issue

And in consideration of my Trustees taking the trouble to execute the management of the said Will I give the sum of two Guineas each

And the remainder if any, after all Expences is paid to be kept in the hands of the Trustees for the benefit of my Kinsman Richd Bealey, & likewise the Book which my Accts are kept in during his minority

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this thirteenth Day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen

Fresh probate to John Sills of Eaton grazier with power of grant to Francis Shelton grazier of Eaton, former probate having been first voluntarily brought in and revoked since they had since discovered that personal estate amounted only to £478.2.2d as shown by the inventory

A full, true, plain, perfect and particular Inventory of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of Francis Bealey late of Eaton in the County and Archdeaconry of Leicester Grazier deceased exhibited and given in upon Oath by John Sills of Eaton aforesaid, Grazier, one of the joint Executors named in the last will and testament of the said Francis Bealey follows (to wit)

This Exhibitant saith that the wearing Apparel of the deceased which might be   
worth about Seven Pounds was soon after his death delivered to his Sisters   
Dorothy Jackson and Dinah Stevens700
This Exhibitant also saith that the deceased was possessed of the following   
Sums of Money vizt   
A Legacy bequeathed to him by the will of his father   
Thomas Bailey deceased40  
A Legacy bequeathed to him by the will of his brother Thomas, in Consideration   
of his taking upon himself (as the said Francis Bealey had promised to do) the   
principal Burthen of the trusts of his will50  
Money which the said Francis Bealey deceased had saved whilst he was a   
journeyman Whittawer and which Occupation he abandoned at his Brother’s   
death for the purpose of managing his Brother’s farm for the benefit of his   
brother’s Son Richard according to his Promise20  
This Exhibitant also saith that there was due to the deceased the Sum of Sixty   
Six Pounds for about twelve years interest for the above Sums of £40, £50 and   
£20 (making together £110) which had been employed by him during the   
management of the said farm66  
This Exhibitant further saith that the deceased was entitled to the Sum of Two   
hundred and ninety five Pounds, two shillings and two pence for his trouble   
during the twelve years he managed the farm for the benefit of his said   
Nephew and which Sum the trustees and executors under the will of the said   
Thomas Bailey and the Legatees under the will of the said Francis Bealey have   
agreed that he should have for such trouble29522

This Exhibitant saith that the foregoing inventory contains all and singular the Goods Chattels and personal Estate of the said Francis Bealey deceased (errors excepted) so far as have come to his hands possession or knowledge and that if at any time hereafter he shall discover any further or other personal Estate of the said deceased when the same shall come to his hands he will readily charge himself therewith and add the same to this Inventory
