Thomas Kelham of Grimston 1783 Will

In the Name of God Amen the Twentieth Day of May 1782 I Thomas Kelham of Grimston in the County of Leicester Clockmaker do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following

That is to say principally and first of all I Give and Bequeath my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God that gave it hoping through the Merits of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer to receive free Pardon of all my Sins and as for my Body to be Buried in a Decent Christian like manner at the Discretion of my Executrix hereafter Nominated

Item I Give to my Daughter Elizabeth Greenhill one Guinea

Item I Give to my Grandaughter Mary Holmes the Daughter of Ann Holmes one Guinea

Item I give to Elizabeth my Wife all that New Inclosed Piece or Plot of Land lying and being within the Lordship of Grimston aforesaid a certain place there called Great Priers Close Containing by Estimation Six Acres or thereabouts and also I give to my Wife Elizabeth all that old Inclosed Piece or Plot of Land lying and being within the Lordship of Grimston aforesaid a certain place there called little Priers Close Containing by Estimation One Acre or thereabouts all which both of the Closes now in my own Occupation and also I Give unto Elizabeth my Wife all my Goods Stock Cattle Chattles rights and for her Life and for Her to dispose on it as she shall think fit

And I do make Elizabeth my Wife my Soul Executrix of this my last Will and Testament revoking all other Wills and Testaments

Signed Sealed and Declared by the said Thomas Kelham the Father and Testator to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us the Witnesses under written who have at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other set our hands as Witnesses to the due Execution of this his said Will

4th April 1783 The above named Elizabeth Kelham the Widow and sole Executrix of the above named Thomas Kelham was then sworn to the due execution of the above written Will and at the same [“time” missing] made oath that the said Testator did not die possessed of Goods and Chattells to the amount of One hundred pounds as she verily believed
